Short Trip report 3-26 to 3-29

A short trip report

Since I have enjoyed so many reports, I will add my short report. I arrived from Baltimore via US Airways the flight was full but it was uneventfully.

Very windy in Las Vegas. I jumped on the rental bus shuttle to Avis and right to car (Thanks TA for the Delta tip) Off to MGM grand for 3 day comped. Grand Tower Room 12th floor. Room not ready so I had decided to explore some of the casinos that I never go to while in Las Vegas. The following is my opinion.

M Casino

15 minutes from the strip area. New Casino with modern dark furnishing. Free buffet with player card. The line for the buffet was very long so I did not stay. Gambling was the usual games. I was there very early (10 am) so it was not busy. I was not overly impressed with it but it may have been because of the early hour.

Arizona Charlie’s

Another local’s casino not as nice as the M. Smoky older place with some character. I was not my type of place but I see how some may like it.

Red Rock Casino

This is a nice place I ended up staying here for a couple of hours. I wish it were closer to the strip. It was clean and not to smoky. The waitress service was good. Again, it would have been a fun place to gamble and hang out but since I was driving and it was so far out I did not drink any alcohol (to bad for me). I actually won about 100 dollar here playing VP.

Back to the MGM

Room – It was quite a way down the hall but it was between the main elevators and the West wing elevator, that turn out to be very convenient. There is a Starbucks off the West Wing and an exit door. The room was fine I have stayed at the MGM before and I knew what the room would be like.

Note: I think the MGM is marketing toward a younger crowd because there seemed to be many younger people staying there, but young people usually drink more and gamble more.

Had a bit of a rest in the room then I made my way to the Sportsbook and placed a couple of bets (Second week of the NCAA tournament) I was way too crowded in the MGM Sportsbook so I walked over to the Excalibur (another place that I never go in) and walked to the sportsbook there was not that big of a crowd. Placed a couple of additional bets and watched one of the games. Gambled a little at Excalibur did not win a thing.

Took the monorail to the Hilton to see the Sportsbook and see the place. The Sportsbook is great the casino is not that great at least it wasn’t to me. Only stayed about 1 hour and made my way back to the MGM grabbed some food gambled for a while and had a small win which had me even for the day and called it a day since I had been up very early.

Day 2 to follow

Looking forward to the rest!

Day 2

Could not sleep so got up about 8 am and drove to Sam Town Boulder where I had the breakfast buffet (I had points to pay for it). This was a very good buffet with all of the usual food and made to order omelets. I think it was only 5.49 if you had to pay for it. Gambled a little while here did not win a thing not even a small win. Decided to leave. Back to MGM crashed for a while.

Hung out around the MGM then again walked over to the Excalibur to cash in my bets ( I won about 200.00) place some additional bets and to watch the game for a while, the sports book there is ok and there is a small bar net to it that sell hot dogs and a beer for 2.50. (I forgot to say earlier that the Excalibur gives drink tickets). Walked over to the Luxor. I like the look of this place. I think as it get later in the evening there would be some sites at this place but I did not stay especially since I did not win a thing.

Back to the Excalibur to finish watching the game and have a few drinks. Played a little VP at the bar to keep the drinks coming.

Back to MGM got the car drove over to Wynn.

Note: There is road construction everywhere around the strip. I personally like a car but I also used cabs and the monorail.

I like this place good drink service and just a good time. Made some last minute sports bets and played VP a few win and a few losses. Left the car in the garage and took a cab back to MGM (damn free drinks) walk over to a food court next to the MGM ate (as you can tell I am not a foodie) and called it a night.

Day 3

Hang over (wow) aspirin then down stairs to Starbucks and water back up to room to recover. Got my second wind and decided to travel downtown. I hit all of the casino in the area they are ok I guess I did not like the Plaza though they had a fair sportsbook. I did not go down to the Main Street or California casinos. Having no luck under the canopy I decided to walk down to the El Cortez I was in there for about 10 then see below.

A win a good win. I stayed around the El Cortez for about another hour did not win any more but real wasn’t pressing my luck. Besides the win I see why people(chicagogambler) likes this place, it is not so flashy and in my opinion not phony. Drinks are reasonable and table rates are good here.

Back to the MGM and to the Grand Café and had some dinner while watching the basketball game. After a rest I went to the Encore/Wynn cashed in my sports bets and gambled for a couple of hours no wins but no losses and then back to the MGM Grand and crashed.

Final day departure

Up at about 9 am and drove out to the Eastside Cannery. I thought that place had an odd odor to it so I left. I drove over to Sam Town and had Sunday Brunch it was comped but would have only cost about 9.50 it was not that great for a Sunday brunch but it was free. Pack up and checked out of the MGM here I had a bad experience for MGM I was in line for 15 minutes the line are not staged so if you get behind a problem or a slow attendant it can suck but oh well.

Drove over to the RIO I had never been in there and played for about 2 hours. I had some small wins and thought that this may be okay later in the evening. Last stop before the AP was the Palms I like this place in the daytime not so much in the night. Again no wins no losses.

Check in at the AP no issue the flight to BWI was one of the bumpiest flight that I have every been on.

That’s it. I still like Vegas but I am thinking that I will either try staying downtown or at the Wynn or Encore next.

Nice trip report. When you sign up for the M resort players card do you get a free buffet or did you have to get so many points? I also liked the casino at Red Rock.

You get the free buffet when you sign up.
