Deep Fried Twinkies

Whats the deal with deep fried twinkies? Are they good? Where do u get them? Thanks.

Deep Fried Twinkies

just someone spamming the board, bringing up old post

They do it for their own entertainment, go figure

Deep Fried Twinkies

I think you can get them downtown; I think you can also get oreos. I don%26#39;t like them. We have the deep fried oreos (which are oreos coated in like a pancake batter and then deep fried and dusted with powdered sugar) around here during fairs and such, and they are so disgustingly sweet that I can%26#39;t stomach them. Not sure if they batter the twinkies.

DH loves them, though.

myinfor, I believe dave is actually asking for some information on the deep fried twinkies. Perhaps the old post prompted him to ask about them. The spammer is gone, now.

dave, I have yet to try this delicacy, though may on my next trip. It is a twinkie (trade name for a sponge roll with cream filling) that is battered and deep fried. Sprinkled with powder sugar, possibly chocolate syrup, (I%26#39;m not sure) and whipped cream topped with a cherry. At least that is the picture I have in mind from a previous post.

im gonna try them and it also looks like the spammer has been removed. hopefully the threw him into the tank at the GN. I wanna see big sharks when I%26#39;m there next week.

lol, looks like a heart attack waiting to happen! kind of like the mega hot dogs at casino royale. :)

The twinkies and oreos are served at Mermaids on Fremonts St. I have tasted them but I am not a fan--it was simply on my ';must do at least once'; list. What turned me off was the STRONG odor of what seem OLD cooking oil. Neither my son nor my wife could be talked into eating them.

I had the same reaction upon walking into Mermaids- the carpeting etc seems to reek of old cooking oil mixed with sugary smells. It turned my stomach- and I have a cast iron - went to boarding school and ate swill kind of stomach! I did see a fried twinkie before I fled- and it seemed to be drenched in powdered sugar but I think was topped with just a few chocolate ';jimmies'; and I don%26#39;t recall cream or a cherry on top- but then again I was trying to escape. I think they fry everything - twinkies, oreos, fries in one communal vat and I don%26#39;t want to even guess how often they change the oil- it sure wasn%26#39;t for me- I had to have a slurpy drink just to recover!

Take fried Twinkie in hand, let cool and apply to thigh. Cuz that%26#39;s where it%26#39;s gonna land anyway.

I tried them just to try them. First, Mermaids blows- don%26#39;t care about the cheapo slushies or anything about the place. The twinkie tasted like a big donut with powdered sugar. I liked the oreos better, but a bite or two is enough because they%26#39;re soo sweet. Dusted with powdered sugar and some chocolate sprinkles. Cheap, but nothing I%26#39;d do every visit. I did it once, crossed it off my list, and won%26#39;t be back!

Meh the smell of mermaids makes me sick, but you get free beads. Hit La Bayou to get the slushy drinks, they are GOOD!
