what happened to the rest of BRguy's TR??

I was reading this TR, but got to page 13 and couldn%26#39;t get any further. I didn%26#39;t see any other postings, so what happened? Geez, this was a really funny TR too. I%26#39;d like to read the rest of it.

Sandy

what happened to the rest of BRguy's TR??

He%26#39;s not finished... just keep watching....

what happened to the rest of BRguy's TR??

Oh,LOL okay. Thanks Low. Gee I thought something was wrong with my %26#39;puter.

Sandy

I think he%26#39;s going to finish it or at least add another installment on Monday. If we are lucky, maybe it will be tomorrow. ;-)

what happened was that Little BRguy woke up...

I would guess Mini BRguy has a great deal to do with the delay...from what I read in the TR he has lost time to make up for.

(sound of a tapping foot...)

LOL, you guys are great.

I am trying hard to finish, I will try and get Day 2 done by the end of the weekend.

Seems I get more writing done during work than home :)

Cheers,

Let minibrguy have his time with the mrs. She sure deserves it. Mini needs his time too. lol Mini knows what%26#39;s good for the body he%26#39;s attached to.

Looking forward to more of the TR. This is just great reading. You oughta write a book on this one. lol I love the little antecdotes and how Mini guy has his say too. Keep big guy in check. Keep it comin.

Flamingo Hotel Rooms

Hi just wondering if any of you know the difference between a Standard Deluxe and a Deluxe Room? Ive found a website which is much cheaper for the Standard Deluxe Room and wondered if there was any difference?

Thanks

Flamingo Hotel Rooms

Well, I%26#39;d be a little skeptical of that website because Flamingo does not use the term ';Standard';. A Deluxe room is a basic room. I have no idea what would be meant by ';Standard Deluxe';, unless they are trying to indicate whether the room has two queen beds or one king bed.

Flamingo Hotel Rooms

The other possibility is that by ';Deluxe'; they mean ';GO Deluxe';.

I don%26#39;t believe there is a difference. What site are you looking at?

I would also believe that they are the same.

Thanks for your input. We%26#39;ve booked it now through travel republic website so we%26#39;ll waite and see what we end up with.

Thanks again

I never heard that term ';standard deluxe'; either, but I do know, from calling the Flamingo, that not all deluxe rooms are the same. Some have been renovated five years ago and others are much older. Ask for a room which has been more recently renovated when you check in.

Go Room is newly remodelled with flat screen Tv, new furnishings and the Deluxe is the older non remodelled room with older 25, furniture etc. Go rooms are much nicer and worth the difference in price.

  • Casino Restaurants

Looking through the topics, many of you have posted some great commentary on places to eat at and stay away from.

I was hoping we could create a thread where posters can list their top 5 recommendations of places to eat at in the casinos, buffets and restaurants included.

    What would you recommend?

    Casino Restaurants

    Breakfast at the Pioneer.

    Casino Restaurants

    Hi

    Second breakfast at Pioneer.

    Harlow%26#39;s for lunch/dinner

    Missisipi (sp?) lounge for dinner.

All lower cost places, not one%26#39;s for spending lot%26#39;s on food as in high end resturants.

    Clive

Sorry can%26#39;t reccommend Harlows......the last 3 times we ate there food was overpriced and lousy. The only food we eat at Gold Nugget is at the Steakhouse and Harlows Sunday Brunch Buffet. FOR what its worth....Edgewater.....nothing, Belle......only mark twains specials each day look in entertainer mag, Trop....like all the restaurants lately......999 t bone 14oz at carnegies......,Pioneer.....I like all the places to eat here......Harrahs....just the brunch from 7 to 2.....all other restaurants overpriced in my book.....Acquarius....no coupons anymore but tuesday night is italian night at buffet and its really good and all the food is pretty good. Riverside.....the cafe is pretty good but not cheap.......my wife works at prime rib room.....its ok to me lately meat has been tough.....gourmet room is like one of the best around here if price is not object. IMO the buffet except for fridays seafood stinks....River palms has improved alot and the foods pretty good at the seafood buffet and the reg restaurants now. Thats my spin as a local. Thanks and have fun in laughlin.

    Hi

Pity Harlow%26#39;s has gone downhill. I must admit it%26#39;s nearly a year now since I was in Laughlin. Perhaps my list will be different by June!

    Clive

    Saltgrass Steakhouse in Nugget

Papa Francesco%26#39;s Pizza across Casino Dr. from Pioneer

I love the gourmet room at the riverside. The best meal on three trips so far.

(Least favourite was the Lodge at River Palms as they had delusions of grandeur!)

    xxx pug

Got an email Friday from the Trop saying that their prime rib buffet is now $7.99 Sunday-Thursday,$9.99 Friday-Saturday,with players card. Not quite as good as the $6.99 offer of a few weeks ago,but still good and worth while.

    Best Casinos for BJ

Which are the best casinos for BJ? Also how do you know if a table payouts 6 to 5, does it say at the table? And last question do most casinos use the auto shuffle or does the dealer shuffle?

    Best Casinos for BJ

    www.bj21.com

swubscribe to the newsletter - usually an eye-opening experience for many - especially those who think downtown has better gambling than the strip.

the 6:5 will usually be posted on a sign on the table - some felts have it - depends on the casino. Do not forget to ask about the rest of the rules: DADm RSA, DA2, etc

Auto shuffle is common-and not to be avoided if other rules are good - pen is also importnt. Some casinos dealer shuffle.

CSM or constant shuffle machine is bad - this is not the same as an ASM - auto shuffle machine. two quite different machines.

    Best Casinos for BJ

BJ%26#39;s are usually confined to the rooms. You can usually find willing participants at the bars in Excalibar. Just kidding. The table will post payouts of 6:5 or 3:2. Almost all casinos use auto shuffle now, most on continuous shuffle with 6 - 8 decks.

';Almost all casinos use auto shuffle now, most on continuous shuffle with 6 - 8 decks.'; Not true - most do NOT use CSM, even if they do use ASM. Always check.

jakbnimble- LOL, I knew I was asking for that one

The answer to your question about best casinos for blackjack depends on what bet levels you%26#39;re comfortable with. As a general rule, the MGMMirage properties (with the exception of Excal) offer the best six-deck shoe games on the strip (you can re-split aces, take late surrender and the are some $25 games where the dealer stands on soft 17). Best double-deck games can be found at Luxor, Mirage or TI.

We played single deck at Mirage and did great! Dont have to be rain man to count a single deck. Bellagio was tough. All constant shuffle. Go to Mirage.

As much as i LOVE Mirage...I respectfully disagree with the poster who suggested playing single-deck there. It pays 6:5. They have the best ';shoe'; games and double-deck in Vegas, but 6:5 payout on blackjacks is a suckers game.

Best Grand Canyon Tour By Bus

We have some friends coming into town, and they%26#39;d like to take a tour to the Grand Canyon from Vegas on a bus (no helicopter). Does anyone know of a good tour company?

    Thanks for your help.

Best Grand Canyon Tour By Bus

Look up SweeTours. They are a young tour outfit with newer buses and they give you a healthy b-fast with every tour. If your friends dont mind smaller vehicles, go with Grand Adventures or Adventure Photo Tours. Whatever you do, go with a tour to South Rim

Best Grand Canyon Tour By Bus

    Thanks.

We have used viator.com in the past - great tour guides, clean bus. Also used showtime tours - and they were good too....but i think viator is better.

Viator is an internet booking agency. They are not a bus company and they are not tour providers. While they enjoy a reasonably good reputation for the service they provide, they do not do GC Tours. They merely book customers for the tour companies.

Yes - you are correct......and it was a good tour!!

Why is casino marketing so stingy? Need Advice

So I am thinking about going to Vegas Monday through Wednesday after Memorial Day weekend. I have called Casino Marketing at Hotels I am interested in and their rates are worse than I have found online. With such poor occupation rates at the hotels, why would they not try to get me in there, knowing I put some good money in play. I always get comped when I go after the fact...But I never get the offers ahead of time which in this economy, pisses me off!

Why is casino marketing so stingy? Need Advice

you are doing the right thing by calling - apparently your play doesn%26#39;t warrant up-front comps. They may not know you put good money in play based on your history.

if you find a promo code you like use it and receive the comp after as you always do.

Why is casino marketing so stingy? Need Advice

I always play the same amount as my Dad, but maybe since I am younger I don%26#39;t get same offers? Who knows.

I was in Las Vegas a week ago and spoke with employees at a few hotels and also a couple of cab drivers. I noticed that crowds were up and asked about it. They all said that around the first of March business picked up quite a bit and has continued to do so since then. Were hotels sold out? I don%26#39;t think so, but occupancy rates have improved. People are still going to Vegas whether they are spending a lot of money there or not. So, things aren%26#39;t quite as bad as you might think. Discounts/promo%26#39;s are given, but you still have to earn your way to getting comped for rooms in advance of your stay.

    it%26#39;s not your age - if you%26#39;re over 21

comps are based on gambling. pure and simple. 21 or 61.

try talking to a host at a property where you have previously been comped - they will review your gambling history, look at your ';theo'; and explain to you what is needed.

you are also asking for a busy week

Yes hotel occupancy is down. However, I don%26#39;t get why people assume that no one else wants to go when they do. So, that is one possible reason why they didn%26#39;t offer you what you called. Supply and demand drives rates and hotels have reduced supply by closing off parts of their hotels.

Another explanation may be that you aren%26#39;t as valuable of a player as you think, at least to the hotels you called. It maybe time to try some new places.

Age does play a role in offers but I think it has more to do with the offers they mail, not with casino rate. It is early - if the hotels don%26#39;t book up, you should be able to get a better deal closer to the trip.

I play about 60 a hand, 6 hours a day, and have always been comped at Bellagio, Mirage, and MGM. Problem is, when you call casino marketing, the lack of human contact seems to play against the caller. In person, they are very friendly and always comp room and some buffet passes.

Don%26#39;t think about it too much. Their loss, not yours. Find another place that will value you more. When you find it, write them back and tell them your story.

Thanks for the advice, any other suggestions out there? I would like to stay at as nice a place for as cheap as possible! Us wall streeters arent making as much anymore!

If you can afford to play 60 hands per hour for 6 hours you must be doing all right.

Why dont you just stay at Bellagio if they always comp you?

Have you asked them what you%26#39;re ';rated'; as officially? Your estimate may be different from theirs.IMHO you%26#39;re right on the borderline for free rooms from a host/ casino marketing at Mirage (but probably not Bellagio). They will usually base your rating on a four hour average. If you%26#39;re playing $60 a hand six hours a day...you should be the equivalent of a $90 bettor (based on four hours).MGMMirage Players Club will gave back nearly $11 an hour for every $25 bet in blackjack (if you%26#39;re playing craps they won%26#39;t count your odds bets...craps is the hardest game in the world to earn comps).

cab question & gold coast question

My husband and i are leaving in a few hours for vegas (staying at flamingo). we%26#39;ve been 3 times before and always taken shuttle, not realizing that we probably should have been taking cabs. Which road should i tell the driver to take to get to flamingo quickest?

also i read recently someone suggested the dim sum restaurant at gold coast. what is the best way to get there from flamingo? is it walkable? husband and i do like to walk, but nothing too far of course?

    Thanks :)

cab question %26amp; gold coast question

You don%26#39;t need to tell the driver anything, he/she probably knows where the Flamingo is. Some people are afraid of a few extra dollars on the fare, and I don%26#39;t blame them! So simply telling the driver ';Flamingo hotel, don%26#39;t take the tunnel, please'; should be all that%26#39;s necessary.

Ping Pang Pong at Gold Coast is a good restaurant. It%26#39;s really not walkable, just take a taxi.

cab question %26amp; gold coast question

Bill%26#39;s, right next door to the Flamingo, has a free shuttle to the Gold Coast at their side entrance on Flamingo Rd. It runs every twenty minutes in both directions up until around midnight.

laurafifi: If you don%26#39;t want to take a taxi, simply walk over to Bill%26#39;s (side facing Ballys) and take the free shuttle...

oh a shuttle! do you know when it runs??? thanks for the tip!

The shuttle starts at 9:15 every morning and runs about every 20 mins.

I bekieve it runs from 9:30 am to about 12:30 at night...I have taken it many times and it is great...runs about every 15-20 minutes..just be sure to read the sign on the door, as they run shuttles also to the Orleans from that spot...

    oh great! thanks so much!

I have never eaten the dim sum lunch at the GC but I have eaten the food there late at night when I didn%26#39;t want to get in the car and drive to another Chinese restaurant ( I am talking about after midnight). The food isn%26#39;t bad at all. Many people have said the dim sum is good but I usually go the Cathay House on Spring Mountain for dim sum. I would be interested to hear how it is at the GC.

Driving to Laughlin Via Hoover Dam?

Is the construction completed around the dam. Last time we were out that way, a few years ago, it looked like they were building roads and bridges over the dam. If it is completed is it a scenic drive? If not I guess the best way is down 95 right?

Driving to Laughlin Via Hoover Dam?

The bridge isn%26#39;t finished yet. When we drove across the dam a couple weeks ago. Traffic was backed up 4 miles.

Driving to Laughlin Via Hoover Dam?

No the construction isn%26#39;t finished yet, you may still experience construction delays as well as a security check.

Don%26#39;t need to see the dam again, just thought if the bridge was open it would be an interesting new drive. Thanks.

Manhatten: From Vegas to Laughlin, you usually don%26#39;t cross the dam (unless you want a longer route, of course).

  • Comps? How do you Know?

I have stay and gambled at MGM properties quite a bit in the last few years. I occasionally get offers in the mail or email, but I have read about other checking on-line and finding out they have comps available. Is this something I could do, and if so, how do I do it?

    Comps? How do you Know?

if you have set up an account with a PIN, most likely.

Call the player%26#39;s club if the website isn%26#39;t clear. The e-mail offers may link you - do they? If not a quick call will get you the info.

    Comps? How do you Know?

You can go to playersclub.com and create a password but you will need your players club number. After you have done this, you will see your offers online but alot of the offers don%26#39;t give you much info other than what property it%26#39;s at. Most offers, you have to call casino marketing to see what the offers are and/or to book them. Good luck!

When you are at the casino, go to casino marketing and ask them specifically what comps you qualify for based upon your play. At the end of each stay, I stop at casino marketing and ask if there is anything they can do for me based upon my play during that trip.

TR-March Madness, the PH, and a happy ending

    Will post as a reply..

TR-March Madness, the PH, and a happy ending

March 26-29..Group of 4 guys heading out for the usual trip to watch the basketball and do lots of gambling.

    Thurs.

Got up way too early for the 7:40 flight out of Milwaukee, the best airport to fly out of. When we checked in, they actually said that we were going to leave early. Nice little bonus. Got on the plane and sat next to a nice woman who goes out to see Barry Manilow quite a bit. Gave her the red middle Roulette strategy. Hope it worked for her.

Landed in Vegas, grabbed the bags from overhead, no checked bags for us. Met the limo driver from the PH and headed off. Last trip was Dec 2007. Too long ago. Me and Double flew together, the others came the night before. Man, is that City Center project huge.

Checked in to the room, fantastic view of nothing. Don%26#39;t really care. Will save the good views when my wife and I go.

Did a little gambling. Down 120 on BJ before I knew it. Went over to Roulette and banged it for 170. The last time I would be up for the trip!

Where to go for lunch? ESPN Zone of course. We hit that place every trip. 3 chicken sandwiches, 1 buffalo chicken. Easy to please. Everybody said the food was very good.

Next thing to figure out was where to watch the games for the day. We took the train down to Mandalay Bay to check out their sports book. Decided it was just okay. Thought we would see if Paris had the ballroom open this weekend too. No dice. Ended up watching in the sports book with buckets of Bud Light for 20 bones. Didn%26#39;t do very well on the games. Won on UConn, lost on Memphis, Duke, and split on Pitt.

After the games, we headed back to the PH for some more gambling. For the record, the Pleasure Pit at Planet Hollywood is unreal. The women are gorgeous and the outfits are distracting to say the least. And starting at about 8 or so, they also add go-go dancers to the pit until at least 3 or 4 am.

Some of the boys were over served a bit. Made for some funny moments. I ended up heading over to the poker table where a very annoying lady was talking from the time I sat down to the time I left. She had major issues. Oh well, it is Vegas after all.

Towards the end, a guy that had also been overserved, came in and started some crazy talk as well. Only it was kind of funny. Kept saying, ';give the kid a cheeseburger'; when someone won, instead of ';winner winner chicken dinner.'; He said that was overplayed.

Left there down a few bucks, went to the room and found out that one of the guys moved my backpack to their room by mistake. Needed some asprin and so I had to go back down, get their key and get my bag. They were feeling no pain and told me to get in the game. I did and got blasted for two hundo. Not good times. Got the bag from their room, my bag and headed to bed. Local time:3:30. I%26#39;d been up for 24 hours. Time for sleepy. Oh yeah, forgot to eat dinner because we were gambling for so long.

TR-March Madness, the PH, and a happy ending

    Great trip report so far.

tell us about the hookers at the Heart bar.

    Day 2.

Today was supposed to be a big day filled with great plans. Unfortunately, they sometimes don%26#39;t work out the way they should.

After getting up around ten or so, I proceeded to head downstairs and played some blackjack in the pits. Started playing two hands at a time. Either win big or lose big. I was running really hot and we had a really fun dealer, pretending like he made twenty or twenty one when he busted, and also pretending like he had blackjack all the time. Not good if you have a heart condition. Of course, since he was giving away money, they had to make a shift change. The new dealer, while very nice, kicked our you know whats. Walked away up 150 so it wasn%26#39;t all bad.

Found the boys playing roulette, their new favorite game after the night before. We were going to head over to the BLT Burger at the Mirage for lunch. It came highly recommended so we thought we%26#39;d try it. We couldn%26#39;t get Double off the table to go to lunch. He kept saying one more spin, one more spin. So he said that if he could do one more spin and he hit one of his numbers, he%26#39;d buy lunch.

Well, give the kid a cheeseburger, because he hit it!

We walked over to the Mirage and went to BLT. It was really good. Had the burger, fat fries and a chocolate shake. Two combos with shakes, two with cokes, total bill was 90 bucks. Double gave the waitress 120 and said keep the change. About two minutes later he realized that he tipped her 33%. Oops. Said no big deal. Thought maybe his generosity would be rewarded with some luck. Nope.

We walked over to the Wynn and checked out the sports book and the casino for a bit. Went out by the pool for some blackjack.

Sat down and started playing. The dealer was not friendly at all. Tried to get some sort of banter with her but got nowhere. Put the charm on overdrive. Nothing. Asked her where she was from. Yugoslavia. I said that Vegas must remind her of home. Crickets. Whatever. Made 125. Generous Double-Minus 300.

Headed out to the taxi line and saw our first famous athlete-Charlie Batch coming into the Wynn. From there back to the PH for the games.

The sports book at PH, while small, is pretty technologically sweet. Two monster high def screens for the game. Great place, and was able to get a seat without too much problem. Free drinks with 50 dollar bets. Had all the ';free'; coronas I could handle.

Fridays bets were a ton better. Hit the first half and game on Louisville and North Carolina. Hit the Michigan State game vs Kansas. Lost on the Syracuse game. Hedged at half on Arizona as well because I had 13 points where I could win both sides. Dumb. Louisville ends up winning by almost 40. Oh well.

Here%26#39;s where plans start to backfire.

We were supposed to do the $89 special at the Palm. We also were going to go to Jenna Fisher%26#39;s (Pam from the Office) birthday party at Prive with bottle service. But there was a winter storm heading into Milwaukee so one of our guys who had to get home by Sunday instead went home on Friday to ensure no problems. So we headed over to PF Chang for dinner (in PH) and then one of the four had to leave. We decided against bottle service as it was only three of us and it was approaching 11:30 so we did a little gambling and headed to bed around midnight.

Good day gambling, bad day for plans blowing up.

    Saturday-Day 3.

After a great night of sleep, got up and checked in on the other two guys and what they were up to. They were going to head out to the pool for some of the late morning and early afternoon. I decided to play a little blackjack and won a couple bucks.

Headed out to the pool to check on the boys. They were sitting next to a smoking hot chick. Good pick on the pool seats. Tried not to stare. Didn%26#39;t work.

We rehashed a couple of details from the night before and figured out what to do for the day.

I headed off to the Earl of Sandwich for a meatball sub. Definitely hit the spot. Proceeded to head over to the PH to watch the Saturday games.

The UConn/Mizzou game was unbelievable. Lots of people betting on the game, most on UConn. (-5.5) I had the first half and won that one to keep the good mojo running. Then it got interesting. The line went back and forth and back and forth. Mizzou hit a 3 to go down by 5 with 6 seconds left. They foul UConn and the guy makes two free throws to go up 7. I knew it was going to come down to the wire and things got scary.

The book starts screaming De-fense, De-fense. UConn lets the Mizzou guy go straight down the lane and he puts up a layup with a second left...and misses!! The crowd went crazy. I was hi fiving guys I just met. It was unreal. I was still shaking my head ten minutes after the game. These are the types of experiences that make you never want to miss March Madness in Vegas.

I then sat to watch the Pitt/Nova game. That was a great game too, back and forth and the book was again mostly on Pitt...who didn%26#39;t cover. The run is over.

After the games, I played a little more blackjack and I was getting flat out crushed. Peeled off 400 and was just trying to survive. Ended up clawing my way back to down about 150, which was a bit of a moral victory.

Met up with a buddy from high school that moved out to Vegas and had a couple beers at the Heart Bar. Good to catch up and hear what living in Vegas is really like. He headed back to Summerlin and we tried to figure out what to do next as it was about ten or so.

We couldn%26#39;t figure out what the best option was, so we ended up heading back up to PF Changs for dinner again. Quick and easy. Had dinner and a few laughs and decided to head back over to the Heart Bar for some cocktails. Got some nice seats on the couches and met up with some sisters originally from Canada, eh, and their friend from the Bay area. Also met up with a guy who they met a few nights earlier, a crazy Irishman who was a riot. We ended up boozing and talking until about 3 or so. Nice conversation, good booze and ample people watching.

May have seen a couple working girls but weren%26#39;t approached by any. Sorry for no details there. Maybe next time.

Headed off to bed for the night.

I was on the other side of that missed layup - glad you enjoyed my money :).

    HTR

    HTR...never support Mizzou! LOL

Oh great........a Monday quack attack. Plus, your Jayhawks cost me money. But I still love you.

    HTR

You are the best!!! I am sorry we disappointed, but a tip for next year is we are going to win it all again :)

That game was absolutely crazy. In retrospect, they should have covered. I was on the wrong end of probably the most brutal play in college ball a few years ago on another Vegas trip. Final four, Duke vs. UConn. UConn up 3, Duke misses a 3, Okefor gets the rebound and is fouled. Three seconds left. I say to the boys we want either two misses or two makes. Worse case scenario, a miss and then a make. Of course that happens. Duke inbounds, quick pass to Duhoun streaking up the sideline and he banks in a half court shot and Duke loses by 1. The spread-UConn minus 2. The place went nuts, and I got kicked in them. I will NEVER forget that game or where I was.

Anyone know the number of floors at Red Rock?

I came across a treasure hunt I would like to take part in. Does anyone know the number of floors the hotel complex has?

    P.S. What%26#39;s my cut?

Best seats for O? Upper or lower Orchestra?

I%26#39;m wanna take advantage of the 25% off and go see O. The upper and lower Orchestra seats are the same price. However, when I called, the lady told me you have sit on the upper to see the synchronized swimming and diving. But Lower seats gives you better detail. I%26#39;m kinda torn, I really want to see this show and want the best seats possible. I don%26#39;t want to regret my seating after spending 250$ on tickets.

    Any suggestions?

Best seats for O? Upper or lower Orchestra?

    Hi.

The O Theatre is not massive so you don%26#39;t have worry about being too far if you sit in the upper orchestra. I sat there and thought the view was better there than the lower orchestra because you are high up enough to see the patterns of the swimmers in the water but still close enough to see costume details etc.

If you want to save even more money, try and see if there are ';Limited View'; seats in the Upper Orchestra for your night. For the two of you it will be $164 total for two tickets with the Travelzoo sale. I just tried it online and it works.

If you can get so called ';Limited View'; seats in section 203, you%26#39;ll be sitting next to people that paid $250 for their seats. Your view really won%26#39;t be a problem. I could see everything and enjoyed the view. The only problem might be if you were in row O of that section. If you%26#39;re short like me, the railing in front might be a problem. Other than that, the other rows are awesome seats and you can go for a nice dinner with the savings.

Best seats for O? Upper or lower Orchestra?

Thanks! I%26#39;m able to get Row P. Should that be ok? I%26#39;m just about to pull the trigger on these.

Are you ordering online? If not, I%26#39;d call and see if there%26#39;s anything in row R or Q, they are even better as they are a little higher up. But if row P is available you%26#39;ll be fine with that. You will be able to enjoy the show from there for sure! Have fun!!

It%26#39;s usually better to call and buy tickets but the 25% off deal is online only.

Row P (or anywhere towards the front of the 200 sections) is great. It%26#39;s where I%26#39;d choose to sit rather than closer.

Sorry, didn%26#39;t realize the sale was online only. Then yes, definitely snap up row P online. It%26#39;s a great deal with the Travelzoo sale!

Thanks a bunch. I called and got the tickets. Sec 103 Row R #1-2 for $164. Amazing, I can%26#39;t wait.

    You mean 203 right? I don%26#39;t think 103 has a row R.

Anyway, great for you to get those seats.

I had the same ones and have no complaints at all with that spot. There%26#39;s something that happens in the beginning that you%26#39;ll have prime viewing of from where you are.

Yes I meant 203. Now I have more money to spend on food.

Thank you nb_fiddler - great advice.

I just reserved 4 tickets - Limited View - Section 203 Row Q %26amp; R. When booking on-line Row O kept coming up - so I called and asked like you suggested.

They honored the 25% discount only on the 10:30 pm show. All 4 tickets with taxes etc. $328.56. I am so excited to see this Cirque Show - we saw Mystere a couple years ago and it was very good. Thanks Again!

No problem. I hope you all like the show.

    Current Blackjack News

    Question for the blackjack players:

So I ordered this months issue of Current Blackjack News from Stanford Wong%26#39;s BJ21. I was impressed with the amount of information but I wonder about the accuracy. For instance, I haven%26#39;t seen a 3:2 table with less than $25 mins at the Flamingo in years. But according to CBJN, there are 11 of those tables there this month. Do I really have shot of finding these things?

    Current Blackjack News

You%26#39;ve done your homework very well! That doesn%26#39;t mean that all eleven tables will be open when you%26#39;re ready to play...but you should be able to find one. If you%26#39;re at the Flamingo and they%26#39;re handing out beads when you get a blackjack or the table felt is pink.....you should move immediately! Now that you%26#39;re armed with this info: compare the Flamingo with Monte Carlo or Mirage and tell us why there are so many of us blackjack players who HATE Harrah%26#39;s Total Rewards program? The feed our egos with free rooms...and rip us off with terrible games LOL. To answer your question, the info at CBJN is pretty accurate. I%26#39;ve only caught a few discrepancies over the years and they generally look into it when you ';call them out.'; It%26#39;s a great service!

    Current Blackjack News

The CBN staff does the casino visits the first day or 2 of the month, and casinos know this. Conditions can and do change - as noted in your newsletter.

It%26#39;s the best compilation of games - worth the few bucks.

As has been, note how bad HET is overall. Also note, that downtown is not much better - a myth mentioned here often.

Making an effort to become an educated gambler will serve you well.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn%26#39;t have known about this great newsletter without this great forum. The funny thing is, CBJN seems to say that HET does have some decent games. But from my experience, and from those experiences shared here, HET is a wasteland for good games. I guess I will check it out but not expect much.

When it comes to to HET, don%26#39;t expect anything for a table games player.

I have noticed a few minor accuracy problems with CBJN with regards to Downtown Casino%26#39;s. It makes me wonder how in depth they really look. One casino dt elimnated single deck back in Nov, but it wasn%26#39;t reported for a few months. There is but one table DT, that has the very best odds, I have used the wizard of odds blackjack calculater to confirm it, but it is never reported. That table is also rarely open, so that might be the reason why.

Yes- Another Post where I can vent about HET...

I will never stay there or play their games! I hate HET Table Games!! bastardddss.

Is all the anger towards HET because of the lousy comps given to table game players or the table games themselves? As far as I can tell, their non-blackjack games, like craps, are pretty standard rules for the Strip. And at least according to CBJN they do have decent BJ rules. I%26#39;ve never seen those games though...

According to CBJN...HET doesnt have good rules in Vegas unless you bet $200 plus a hand at Caesars. The games you described at Flamingo have a house edge of 0.66 percent. With all due respect, this is a poor game. You can find games at Mirage or Monte Carlo with a comparable minimum with a house edge of 0.26 percent (re-split aces, late surrender etc.). Look at the double-deck games at Flamingo and Paris: $25 minimum with a house edge of 0.53 percent (they won%26#39;t let you double after splitting). For $25, you can play the double-deckers at Luxor and Mirage (sometimes TI) with a house advantage of only 0.19 percent (best two-deck game in LV).

Harrah%26#39;s does offer a few good games throughout the country (i.e. Tunica and suburban Chicago). For low-level craps players, HET is a good deal because it offers you the best chance of free rooms in LV (if you don%26#39;t mind their hotels). They are INCREDIBLY tight with food comps for table players though.

    Darren,

I understand your point. But is all the hatred of HET because of the .27 percent difference in house edge you described? Or is it because of the tight comps?

I have never gotten anything from HET except for the reduced-rate room mailers they send out. But I%26#39;m also a pretty low roller so I don%26#39;t expect much. On the other hand I%26#39;ve never gotten a single offer from MGM/Mirage.

Good question! I think the hatred towards HET is more directed towards the bad gaming...and at $25 and up it%26#39;s also about the comps. You won%26#39;t get a single thing by playing below $25 a hand at MGM properties. We could argue whether that%26#39;s ';fair'; or not....but that%26#39;s the way it is. Now say you get a reduced rate or even a ';free'; night or two for playing their bad games at Flamingo, Now count how many times you lose because you split aces and end up with an ace and cant resplit...or you end up with a 16 Vs.10 and cant take late surrender. You will quickly discover that the money you lose is not worth the ';free'; room at HET. Also, see how many points you accumulate on your card at HET. MGMMirage will give a $25 player roughly $11 an hour in comps. At HET, the same player won%26#39;t even have enough for a muffin in the coffee shop.

Its description of itself as being ';on the Strip'; is a little misleading however. It%26#39;s on Las Vegas Blvd quite close to South Point.

    vegas newbie with questions

We%26#39;re headed in for a business conference end of April, and looking to stay at Mirage or maybe Bellagio. This forum is so vast that its hard to find things out without getting lost!!! So, please, forgive me if I am asking dumb or sorely repetitive questions....

Given our potential locations, can someone suggest good places to enjoy lunch within reasonable walking distance?

I%26#39;m also interested to learn of fun/interesting activities besides the obvious casino stuff that would be within walking distance from either of these venues. Interests include art, history, museums, would love to find a place to learn about Las Vegas%26#39;history, and really like to find opportunities to do things that the locals enjoy.

Is there a good public transit system? I recall something about a tram or monorail that links venues, I think...would this be an option for say, visiting ';old downtown'; from the strip area?

    All responses are appreciated.

    Thanks

    vegas newbie with questions

Let me start with this...If you are interested in Vegas history, you must visit the Neon Boneyard. It is in the downtown area, but really just in the desert near the Cashman Center...I forgot the exact web site but google ';neon boneyard';...I went in June and it was fantastic...You really get chills seeing the old Vegas signage...I am a relative of Frank Sinatra, so being able to see the signs that lit the skyline decades ago was really special to me...It%26#39;s a pretty short cab ride once but you must have the exact address (I think it%26#39;s 8 something Las Vegas Blvd North) Then you can stop in downtown on the way back to the strip. There isn%26#39;t a monorail that goes to downtown, so a cab is the best way to go (it%26#39;s either that or bus)

    vegas newbie with questions

There is an art gallery right inside Bellagio - I believe the current exhibit is Warhol and his contemporaries - not my cup of tea but it might be yours. I%26#39;ve seen some wonderful things there - the Faberge exhibit comes to mind. Check for your dates. Also don%26#39;t miss the beautiful Conservatory inside Bellagio.

We went to the Atomic Testing Museum a few months ago - very interesting glimpse into that period of history. I believe there is a bus that runs right down Flamingo to it.

Too bad Venetian doesn%26#39;t have its Guggenheim museum anymore, but I am glad to hear that Bellagio has Warhol and his contemporaries. If you stay at Mirage, I personally think California Pizza Kitchen is great (yes, a chain, but yummy) and the deli there right near CPK looks good too. If you stay at Bellagio, you might like to cross over to Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood, or Paris to give Mon Ami Gabi a try (some love, some think it is overrated, I enjoyed it twice).

Since you are there on business you may not have a lot of time, but everything is sort of within walking distance, you just get sore feet. I would consider a car rental or cab for some of your transit. The Deuce can be good (bus) but most say it takes a long time and time is wasted. With a car, drive to locations on the strip or downtown and see what you want to see before moving on. Valet service works great. If you cab it, that is best if you plan to drink.

I agree with generally being sure to hit downtown, and perhaps Riviera, Sahara area before those get imploded!

    Have fun.

For a nice lunch out, two places come to mind..........Todd English%26#39;s Olives at Bellagio and Bobby Flay%26#39;s Mesa Grill at Caesar%26#39;s Palace. Both are excellent. The California Pizza Kitchen in Mirage is extremely casual, food is good, but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it for a nice lunch out. Mon Ami Gabi might be good for lunch, but I%26#39;m one of those that found it to be rather ordinary and nothing at all special.

BLT at Mirage is also a good place for lunch. Also the Carnegie Deli at Mirage. If you are at MGM (not necessarily close but in case you are there) wichcraft is a great place for lunch.

There is a monorail but it doesn%26#39;t go downtown and some people (including myself)feel it is easier to take a cab or just walk. It might be nice to try once if you are going from one end of the strip to another.

You won%26#39;t find museums except for perhaps the gallery at Bellagio. Vegas is not the type of place that people generally go to do those kind of things. I am not even sure there is a museum dedicated to the history of Vegas. As the pp suggested, the neon graveyard would be fun to visit.

I second Carnegie Deli at Mirage. Huge servings and good!

Definitely go downtown to Fremont - it is the ';old strip'; - if you are after Vegas history. Go at night to see the light show in the sky.

The Conservatory at Bellagio is pretty special - check it out if you are staying there.

There is a Liberace museum, but I haven%26#39;t been.

The Monorail links strip hotels, but will not take you as far as downtown - you will need to get the Deuce (bus) or a cab or walk to get downtown. Previous poster%26#39;s suggestion of going to the neon boneyard and then seeing Fremont on the way back was a good one.

Cafe BabaReeba in the Fashion Show Mall is one of my favorite places to eat, and would be great for lunch.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions...my AAA guide just wasn%26#39;t giving me the help I needed!!

My understanding is that this monorail does go to the Stratosphere...can anyone tell me if I can use it from Bellagio or Mirage, or close proximity?

Also, I would love to go see one of the old time Burlesque programs with the unbelievable costumes...my AAA guide is kinda old- do those shows still exist? If so, are there any close to my potential location?

You will have to catch the monorail across the street at the Flamingo or Bally%26#39;s or Harrah%26#39;s.

The old burlesque shows are slowly dying and it%26#39;s too bad. The last one to close was at the Trop. Maybe you can check out Jubilee at Ballys.

    Thanks, Jack.

They are/were so iconic- I hope there is one good one left. I%26#39;ll look into Jubilee, thanks.

    Hotel near Sam Boyd?

Not sure where Sam Boyd is located. Can someone please recommend a nice hotel not too far from the statium.

    Hotel near Sam Boyd?

It%26#39;s on the far east side of town. Sam%26#39;s Town, Eastside Cannery and Sunset Station would be relatively convenient if you have a car.

    Hotel near Sam Boyd?

    Are those hotels nice?

Which hotel on the strip is near the stadium?

If you want to stay on the strip, then anything near Flamingo or Tropicana will be pretty good. It%26#39;s still going to be a 15 - 20 minute drive.

Of the three, the Eastside Cannery is the newest. They are all locals places, with the good and bad that comes with that.

If you want to stay near the Stadium stay at Sunset Station it is the best of the nearby Hotels.

As mentioned the Strip is 20 minutes from the Stadium. The Downtown hotels are probably a little quicker to get to because you can get on the 95 easy and take it out to Russell road. Once you exit you are only about a mile from the stadium. From the Strip you take Trop East about 7-8 miles so it takes a while with all of the traffic lights.

Thanks for all your imput - we have decided not to stay near the stadium %26amp; stay on the strip but some place that would give us easier access.

    Which area would be best?

anywhere near trop and the strip or even flamingo and the strip

Is that considered S. end of the strip or center strip?

If you%26#39;re planning on staying on the Strip, location doesn%26#39;t really matter a huge deal in terms of getting to the stadium. It will mean an extra 5-10 minutes drive if you%26#39;re at one hotel compared to another. Proximity to the stadium shouldn%26#39;t be an issue in selecting a hotel in my opinion if the Strip is where you want to stay.

out of curiosity, who are the people outside casinos...

That attack you and ask if you%26#39;ve gotten your comps yet, etc? Are these the %26#39;hosts%26#39; I keep hearing about? Or are they just trying to reel you into the casino?

The ones that came at us (and I do not use %26#39;attacked%26#39; lightly) were overly persistent and very unpleasant to deal with and say no to.

out of curiosity, who are the people outside casinos...

Sounds like Timeshare shills to me- They%26#39;ll say just about anything to get your attention!!

out of curiosity, who are the people outside casinos...

It sounds like you%26#39;re describing salespeople for time shares.

I%26#39;ve never had one ';attack'; me, lightly or otherwise.

    Timeshare sharks.

haha..no these were people wearing the casino uniforms, the one specifically I%26#39;m thinking of was outside PH and she was right on us, non-stop, even after the %26#39;No, thanks%26#39; was said several times. She was following us and bugging us about signing up for comps.

The timeshare people got to be pretty easy to pick out, and this wasn%26#39;t one of them.

The timeshare people at PH do wear uniforms. If not them I have no clue. They do in fact ask you if you want comps and how long you are going to be in town.

REALLY! Wow. OK. The T/S nasty people I saw all had Tahiti Village uniforms on. So I presumed these were other crazy people.

Ah well, now I know that too! :)

    Thanks!

IMO the T/S Shills at the Golden Nugget wore very similar uniforms as those who worked there as well. I%26#39;m sure thats who was accosting you. Jacka$$es.....

They are just salesman. Just tell them no if you arent interested. They can be persistant but just keep moving and basically ignore them.

You wont hurt their feelings, its their job.

I have never had them approach me. That is probably because I tend to stay at the higher end Hotels on the strip. The Wynn, Bellagio and even the Mirage have non of that crap on their properties.

    Those are the most irritating people. I would walk across the street from the Palazzo to either TI or the Fashion Show Mall for Starbucks and they would hassle us. One woman outside the mall started harrassing me saying ';Ohhhh you and your Louis Vuitton bag, you can%26#39;t stop and talk to me';

I do not like these people

    Harrahs, Premium or Deluxe

Narrowing down our hotel for a 4 night stay in LV before heading out in an RV across country.

Harrahs seems reasonable reviews, very good value for money given that all we want is somewhere to sleep that is clean. Not bothered with any gambling. Good central location for access to rest of the strip.

The Deluxe room is coming in at $390 for the stay or $510 for the Premium (exc. taxes etc.).

Given we are just after 4 nights sleep is the extra $120 worth a mini bar, hair dryer and other wee extras we probably won%26#39;t use??

Always laugh when I see 2 big beds in every hotel room, don%26#39;t American couples ever sleep together :)

    Harrahs, Premium or Deluxe

I think you%26#39;ll like the view better in a premium room.

Americans like 2 beds; one for sleeping, the other for messing up ; )

    Harrahs, Premium or Deluxe

We%26#39;ve stayed in both. I like the premium, but the deluxe is fine. We stayed in the deluxe back in September and had a great view of the mirage. You do get the hairdryer in every room, and a king bed too.

The Deluxe rooms are bigger than the premium rooms and located in the Carnaval Tower which I much prefer. Should you choose that one you could request a higher floor with a view and that would be an upgrade to a luxury room. The elevators are located conveniently right off of the registration area next to Starbucks.

The premium rooms are located in the older Mardi Gras Tower and have been recently upgraded. You would need to walk through the casino for a bit to reach those elevators.

To my knowlege all of the rooms have mini bars, hair dryers etc.

I know you asked about Harrahs but I find Treasure Island and Mirage both better and dollar wise about the same. Check www.smartervegas.com for links to great promos on TI and Mirage. Rooms have been all remodeled.

I would get an upgrade, remodeled room over a view. The views from Harrahs really aren%26#39;t that great. I just got back and had a room with a view of the Mirage volcano. The volcana wasn%26#39;t working the 4 days we were in Vegas. Saw a lot of guys up on top working on it.

Great site with descriptions of the different hotels www.cheapovegas.com

on a side note... not sure if it was the sheets or towels but 3 out of the 4 of us got a rash.

I second the last post by luggageinhand!

look at the promos on smartervegas.com

you should be able to find matching or better rates at another hotel - not that there is anything wrong with Harrahs.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Using the listed sites, Mirage is coming in at $651 (ex tax), Treasure Island at $676 for the same dates.

I have struggled to find equivalent hotels for the price of Harrahs. The reviews on TA hae been reasonable, I ignore any reviews complaining about the quality of the casino as it is irrelevant for me.

Poor tv%26#39;s and phone, again, wouldn%26#39;t put me off as I wouldn%26#39;t be using them :)

It amuses me that you think everyone who reserves a hotel room in Vegas is part of a couple. Lots of people take trips to Vegas with their buddies or siblings, and convention-goers and other business travelers often share rooms to save money. So that%26#39;s why there are so many rooms with 2 beds in them. Don%26#39;t worry, there are still plenty of king bed rooms available.

Not Vegas in particular, but America all over.

In the UK you tend to get a single bed OR a 1 Double bed room, hardly ever a room with 2 double beds.

Probably because we tend to charge per person and not per room :)

But even on some American TV/movies, you see couples sleeping at home in seperate beds. Only ones who do that in UK are ones who have fallen out (and hubbys usually on the sofa!) :)

I love Harrahs, have never had a bad room, and Im sure most of them have been deluxe. The location is great. It was my first LV hotel, and remains my favorite.

Keep checking prices, as they flucuate often, and if you book directly thru Harrahs, you can have the price adjusted if the rate comes down.

Enjoy your cross country trip! =)

yes, American couples do sleep together. is it a given that couples only share a room? What about groups of more than 2 people and unrelated individuals?

Not every room has 2 beds - many of us prefer king beds.

Only you know what anyhting is ';worth'; to you.

Are you sure about harrah%26#39;s? I%26#39;m one who thinks it has seen better days - and there are many properties in the same price range which are much better.

    Antiques-old cookbooks and advertising posters?

    Taxi ride and Tunnel??

sorry i%26#39;m slightly confused about the Tunnel and the taxi ride.

we%26#39;re going to catch a taxi from the airport to the Wynn, do we go thru a tunnel we should ask not to for some reason?

    Taxi ride and Tunnel??

The tunnel is the long haul and will cost you more. Just say no tunnel please.

    Taxi ride and Tunnel??

The tunnel heads south under the east-west runway to the freeway, then you take the freeway west and back north to the strip. It%26#39;s a round-about way to the strip.

Any of the resorts on the east side of the strip (like Wynn) are a straight shot north from the airport.

Would this also apply to the likes of Harrah%26#39;s?

How far down the Strip would you start considering the Tunnel route to be worthwhile?

If five bucks is a really big deal to you, by all means say no tunnel...

Should you say no tunnel for the Orleans? We went through the tunnel last year to Orleans and it was just over $20 which I thought was a bit expensive.

I%26#39;m also curious about this tunnel. I don%26#39;t remember one the last time I was in Vegas. I%26#39;m staying at the Luxor. If I remember correctly, that%26#39;s pretty close to the airport. Would a taxi try to take the tunnel being the long way around in order to make the fare higher?

I don%26#39;t think I should have to speak up to be treated fairly.

I would be more inclined to not tip the cabbie which should cover your difference ($5?) that way you have the last laugh. Are there any times when the tunnel makes sense (traffic)?

great thanks for the replies. i can%26#39;t remember ever seeing a tunnel (or entrance) so was confused.

but come to think of it i think i had one to many drinks in a big football shaped cup, so can%26#39;t remember much of my trip apart from the sick bit!!

    thanks again

With the current traffic chaos on E Tropicana it may possibly make sense to take the tunnel to get to destinations such as Orleans and Luxor when this would not normally be the case. The opinion of a local or a recent visitor would be helpful.

The tunnel gets a raw deal from certain posters in my opinion. It may be more expensive ($5-10) to take it to center Strip properties but you%26#39;ll invariably be at your hotel faster. It comes down to personal priorities.

Anyone else having a problem with this site?

Is anyone else having a problem with this site? I can%26#39;t get it to load or when it does load I can%26#39;t read any posts because the page doesn%26#39;t load. I thought it might be my computer but I am having the same problem with both the desktop and laptop. I%26#39;m not having a problem with any other site (except AOL.) I%26#39;m so frustrated as this is my favorite forum and we leave for Vegas in 3 weeks and I want to read the trip reports. I can%26#39;t say for sure it%26#39;s not my computers so just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

Anyone else having a problem with this site?

    Mine has been working fine.

My only problem is all the posts that people make looking for something for nothing.

Anyone else having a problem with this site?

    Nope, no problems here.

No problem here, except I get nothing done because I am on here, lol.

    ski hire around heavenly

we have previously hired skis from the ski rental near the stagecoach lift. Is there any where else in South Lake Tahoe that is particularly cheaper or are they all affiliated with the heavenly resort-and thus the same price?

    Trip Report.. 3-25---3-30

    Trip Report..

Wed 3/25 checked in at midnight,, no line no wait....T.I. room was very nice....

Overall Experience with T.I was great,, the only complaint is food options...T.I. only has 1- 24 hour dining option, that sucks....

I actually loved the casino,,, We hit for about 1,500,,thru out the stay, mostly on craps.. We are of course low rollers...

Absolutely loved Khaunaville... The food was awesome ( crab bisque soup and stir fry)...Service was awesome too.....

Clubs were Tao, Jet and Prive%26#39;, all 3 were a good experience...besides HIGH drink prices....

Loved the Fashion show mall,, Macys had a great sale...

mostly gambled, explored the strip and shopped...

Monday. 3/30 check out was a breeze,,

    southwest direct flight home,,

he is a promotor and does a good job......

It%26#39;s been my experience that most casinos only have one 24-hour dining option. How many were you expecting?

well maybe i just wanted a better selection of food....

  • Am I crazy?????

We just got back last week from our first trip to Vegas and we can%26#39;t wait to go back. So many things we didn%26#39;t get the chance to do and things we want to do some more.

I already reserved a room for 3 nights at MGM Grand in June for $49 a night with free buffets every day and poolside drinks comped, plus $25 free slot play.

Now I just need to pull the trigger on a plane ticket. We can get there and back for $398 total!

Am I crazy? I haven%26#39;t even finished my trip report yet! Are we just riding the back from vacation high? I am worried that awesome airfare will be gone if we don%26#39;t jump on this...but then again, I am worried that I am crazy!

What do you think? (Although I am pretty sure I can guess the responses :-)

    Am I crazy?????

    Not crazy at all!!

I enjoy going to Vegas a few times a year, I have 2 trips planned already I am sure there will be another one too!!

    Happy planning!!

    Am I crazy?????

Probably, but go back anyway. Most of the rest of us do!! We just can%26#39;t get back as fast as we want to.

Go for it!!!!!!! If I had the chance to go more than once a year, I would. Especially with the great deal at MGM!

    Hi travelermcb,

Sounds like you had a great time! I%26#39;m going in June and was gong to book the Montecarlo because of the low rate, but your deal at MGM sounds fantastic. Did you use a promo code to book it?

    Ally

NO!! You are not crazy, just addicted like the rest of us! Welcome to the club!

    smartervegas.com/hotels/mgm_grand/promotiona…

That%26#39;s where I got the promo code/link to the MGM deal. Expires on the 10th, but if fully refundable if you change your mind.

    U B Crazy 2 !

I don%26#39;t know your state well enough to tell how far Eugune is, But http://www.allegiantair.com has flights one way depending on the day for $69. They fly from 3 cities in Oregon and 2 from Washington. I would hope one would be close. We have flown Allegiant many times. It is no frills but low cost.

And no you%26#39;re not crazy, you have been bitten by the bug.

Crazy??? No way. If you are then so are the rest of us. Go for it %26amp; have a great time. I went in October %26amp; I am going back next month. Join the addiction. LOL. :) :)

Of course you are not crazy...I usually have two trips booked and sometimes three...At present though, only have one trip booked. Five weeks from tomorrow...

If you had to open a new hotel in Vegas ......

    what would the theme be?

If you had to open a new hotel in Vegas ......

OOO....fun topic! I think I%26#39;ll steal my idea from the movie ';A Night at the Roxbury'; and do an ';outside in'; hotel. Have couches and inside stuff outside for people to sit on, and have all the rooms have an ';outdoors'; theme. I would provide beds and stuff inside, but maybe use things like live plants and balconies to make it feel more like outside.

If you had to open a new hotel in Vegas ......

I%26#39;d theme it after a great European city...Italian or French...oh wait....

Superheroes! I would call it '; Metropolis';. An ancient Greek/ Hellenistic theme would be cool too.

    See also:

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k25688…

    I%26#39;d do a Vegas theme.

    Slot machines.

    Craps tables.

    Sexy cocktail waitresses.

    Lots of glitz and lights.

    A buffet.

I%26#39;d make it very tall and circular. And give it pretty colors of orange and amber.... maybe from the other end of the strip it would look like a huge Long Island Ice Tea!

LMAO Lowrence! I should have known what your idea would be!

Hmmm.. I%26#39;d either go with a haunted house theme... or something politically motivated.. have left a left wing and a right wing... and see where the ';moderates'; end up! OR Disney!!

    ok... seriously...

I%26#39;d go with another country theme... like Hungary, Australian or South African....I think it%26#39;d be cool to see a lot more of a world showcase on the strip!

Haha, I%26#39;d love to see that Superheroe idea. I%26#39;d stay there every single time

Left wing and right wing! LMAO!!! What if one side filled up and you were forced to bunk in with the other side?? Oh, the conversations at the front desk would be priceless!

a different kind of trip for me to Vegas--need some help!

My husband and I have been to Vegas more times than I can count--usually with friends or sometimes alone--some of you might remember last year I did the surprise birthday party for 18 there. I have also done a trip with my mom and my siblings after my dad died of Alzheimer%26#39;s--we took the trip for him. But now, something totally different--two of my friends/colleagues and I will be retiring at the end of this school year--lots of years in education--yeah for us! We have decided to celebrate the start of the 2009-2010 school year by being somewhere fun. We are looking at a lot of options--Vegas being one of them. So---my question here--best hotel for 3 women and good spas. The entertaiment and dining I know about--we always stay at Harrah%26#39;s properties because of the free rooms, but this is a different trip. Help??

I know the MGM properties have some suites which would be nice--good spas? Any info would be helpful.

a different kind of trip for me to Vegas--need some help!

As usual, I will recommend Venetian/Palazzo! You will have large rooms with a living room to relax in, great food and entertainment choices plus the Canyon Ranch Spa! They set the standard for spas more than 20 years ago. Plus the V is in a great location! Have a great trip, you guys deserve it!

a different kind of trip for me to Vegas--need some help!

I%26#39;d have to concur with the Venetian and Canyon Ranch Spa, it always gets great reviews...and the venetian rooms are like mini suites, they%26#39;re lovely, three can share a room if you need to conserve on costs.

We stayed at Encore in April and loved it. It felt so relaxing and of couse the dining at Wynn and Encore is great. Cocktail service is prompt and both Wynn and Encore seem to appreciate your business.

I will have to say the spa at Encore was beautiful and I felt pampered every moment. I can%26#39;t argue that Canyon Ranch is wonderful but Encore was fabulous too.

Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy a trip of pampering and make some memories. Congrats on your retirement, you%26#39;ve earned a special trip for sure with all those years of service.

    (think luxury) :-%26gt;

Victoria Room at Bill's for lunch?

Anyone been there for lunch? How is the food? My plan for the day is the Liberace Museum in the morning, lunch and then see Big Elvis. So thought maybe have lunch at Bill%26#39;s.

Victoria Room at Bill's for lunch?

Good basic food and inexpensive. Burgers, Club Sandwiches, salads etc, also have breakfast available all day. There is a also a fairly large selection of Chinese food. They have late night specials too!

Victoria Room at Bill's for lunch?

Thanks! That%26#39;s just what I was looking for.

    Mesa grill?

    anyone eaten there recently?

    Mesa grill?

yes--I loved it. It was packed for dinner on a Sunday night, so definitely make reservations.

    Mesa grill?

Yes, it%26#39;s awesome. My favorite part of the menu is the appetizers - I typically just get 2 appetizers and skip the main course! Sophie%26#39;s salad is soooo good. The main courses are great as well though, don%26#39;t get me wrong. The use of heat in the dishes is unique to anything I%26#39;ve ever had before.

    the corn chowder is great.

Highly recommend the appetizer track as well--we did the chicken tacos, goat cheese queso fundido, and shrimp and corn tamale for the two of us, and it was plenty!

sounds great - I am totally an appetizer person - almost never order an entree. would rather try two small things....

LOVE LOVE Mesa in NY but was unsure what the buzz was on the Vegas locale....

    thanks!

Haven%26#39;t eaten there since October 08 - but also recommend the appies. I had the tamale, the tacos, the salad, the queso fundido and the duck pancake. Only one I didn%26#39;t personally care for was the duck pancake, however my dining companion thought it was great. Highly recommend the Black Widow Mojito.

The pear margarita is fabulous. Food is top notch. Last Sept. DH and I were there and he says to me'; look who%26#39;s sitting behind you?'; It was Bobby Flay, friendly to everyone. He sat there our entire meal. Fun place to go.

Oops! Sorry. I just wrote a post about this restaurant before I saw your post.

    Lucia

Ate there in March. I was there on a Sunday night. Got there at 8pm, and was told a table would not be available till 9:30pm. So its pretty packed and for good reason. Mesa Grill is a celebrity chef joint that is both worth the money and the hype, unlike some others. Had tiger shrimp roasted garlic corn tamale for an app, and the New Mexico spice rubbed pork tenderloin with sweet potato tamale for entree.

Was going to order desert, but the two tamales stuffed me. Will be back in June to try the coffee rubbed filet.

I%26#39;ve seen this mentioned in about 3 TRs in the last couple of weeks. (All good reviews) Guess I%26#39;ll have to add this to my list!

    Why is golf rarely discounted?

You would think that with tourism down a bit that you could find reasonable rates for golf in Las Vegas.

I know many places discount for locals but they make it hard for visitors to help ';stimulate'; the economy by way of the links.

I%26#39;ve tried calling courses direct as well as booking agency%26#39;s and not much in the way of discounts.

I%26#39;ve found some from a second party booking agency on a few select courses, but only a hand full.

I know some tee times are going un-booked and it just doesn%26#39;t make sense to me why they don%26#39;t try to fill them.

    Go figure...

    Why is golf rarely discounted?

Ya, I could%26#39;nt agree more. I was hoping for at least 2 rounds and made some calls. Average greens fees were $195 without a cart.Yikes!

What possible financial benefit can there be from a golf course that is not running to capacity? Maybe if this recession continues for a few months longer ( a certainty) we%26#39;ll see prices drop.

    Cheers

    Why is golf rarely discounted?

The Falls course closed at the end of January. I played it in mid-Jan and liked it so much that I wanted to play it again the next day. They would only do me a deal of $10 off the rack rate, no matter how hard I tried to bargain they wouldn%26#39;t drop the rate. The closed 2 weeks later because of a lack of usage.

Why they didn%26#39;t drop their rates to c$100 just to get players on the course is a mystery. Courses all over the world are having to reduce their green fees but LV seems relatively immune. Strange.

re: troublelove%26#39;s experience. I am now getting emails for discounts at Reflection Bay on days I presume no groups or bulk players have reserved times. Others may have to follow.

';Why they didn%26#39;t drop their rates to c$100 just to get players on the course is a mystery'; Not much of a mustery - courses are expensive to maintain. Having many players not paying the necessary fees does no good - and can hurt.

The bean counters know where X is - sometimes it is better to close or have less players.

No mystery - the bottom line matters.

Not to mention the fact that the higher rate keeps the course more exclusive, which I%26#39;m sure is why some of the players actually play there. Drop the rates too far and you%26#39;ll lose some of your clients who feel that they%26#39;re making themselves available to too many people.

this is why i only golf in the summer months when the prices do come down due to the heat stroke one may suffer on the course

vegastaco, it wasn%26#39;t until faily recently that R-Bay discounted in the summer. They used to ask $250 for August!

itgoesbang; I used ezlinks.com and got a decent price on a few select courses, some are pretty decent tracks. You may want to try them.

Many courses around the country in tourist/golf destinations are discounting golf. If they can do it and survive so can others.

    bridgefan1 posts:';Not much of a mystery - Having many players not paying the necessary fees does no good - and can hurt. The bean counters know where X is - sometimes it is better to close or have less players.';

Yes the bottom line does count. And when there are no beans to count, they will close or become shabby.

You think empty fields with no income are more desirable than letting a few golfers go out at a cheaper rate? I don%26#39;t. Not much demand for empty properties surrounding Vegas right now.

As for exclusive courses, they can still price themselves at a rate that will keep blue collar golfers away.

I%26#39;m with you vegastaco, I often golf in +105F when the prices are reduced.

The hotel/casinos understand traffick = $$ that%26#39;s why it%26#39;s good value for the dollar right now. Why don%26#39;t golf course?

    ';You think empty fields with no income are more desirable than letting a few golfers go out at a cheaper rate? I don%26#39;t. Not much demand for empty properties surrounding Vegas right now';

    Doesn%26#39;t matter what you think.

For some courses, it is cheaper to close than stay open and maintain a course - again, the bottom line. They may lose less closing. It%26#39;s not for you or I to ';think'; anyhting.

The fact is each course will make a decision based on its bottom line and do what serves them best - at times that will be closing rather than discounts on fees, if those fees don%26#39;t make econimic sense - and there are many courses in that exact situation.

In many tourist destinations this is happening as we speak. A sign of the times, unfortunately.

To further complicate matters are the water restrictions on the Vegas courses. Turf removal and budget constraints do lead to bottom line considerations. I am curious as to what will happen with the Lake Las Vegas Fazio course.

im going in a few days.. so ill meet the deadline. lol

    Thank Gawd this helped someone!

I%26#39;ll be there until the 30th, so I may try one as well!

They%26#39;ve had these ';seasonal'; (really quarterly) menus for some time now. I%26#39;d be willing to wager that the ';spring'; menus will hit the website the first week of April.

I noticed that Mirage had something similar and did not have a date deadline. We are going in April and may give it a try. Has anyone ate at any of the Mirage restraunts?

No, but I printed a Kokomo%26#39;s restaurant deal they sent me. Looks good.

I was just on MGM website and it looks like they have added spring tasting menus. These seem like a great deal. I wonder if there are any catches, like not available on Saturday nights.

I had dinner at Fiamma in the MGM on Saturday, 2/14, Valentines day and we were able to take advantage of a prix fixe menu. It was great!

    Mirage Tower Views

What choice do I have as far as views from a king deluxe tower room? First time to LV and leaving in the morning. Thanks, Harry

    Mirage Tower Views

I think all the normal views are available, including the volcano view. Probably the most preferred view at Mirage is the pool view south. This will also give you a fairly nice view down the strip.

    Mirage Tower Views

Last year we were in the south wing, with a pool view.

Could someone that received it please tell me the gist.

And,yes I do know I could phone and ask.

    I got that email.

It%26#39;s basically for a wine tasting event on May 16. Tickets are $200 in advance, $225 at the door.

    Great~Thankyou very much.

    Countdown has begun

So freakin excited. We are leaving in 11 days.. We are so stoked. Leaving kids at home, woo hoo. We will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary. We are going to Tryst Thursday night and we are going to XS on Friday night. Hubby not so much a dancer, but I love to dance. If any of you are going to be out that way come and get together with us, I need some dancing buddies. LOL.... Last year I met a bachelorett party and I tell ya I had so much fun with them, and my husband just let me have a great time with them. But I am so pacing myself, didn%26#39;t do such a great job last time, basically hubby had to carry me back to our room. LOL... OOPS. I will be writing a TR when we get back. Yeah I am sure he will be too. His name on here is beerdrinker13.

    Craps and Blackjack

Will in vegas April 19 thru the 23rd. Does anynone know if there are any $2.00 Craps or Blackjack tables in Vegas? Used to be able go downdown, but haven%26#39;t been there in 6 years.

    Craps and Blackjack

I think you can still find $2 BJ tables and $3 craps tables at Slots-A-Fun. There may also be some off-strip casinos with low stakes.

Most of the main Strip and downtown casinos are probably going to be $5 and up.

    Craps and Blackjack

Not sure how up to date this information is?

    www.bigempire.com/vegas/gamblecheap.html

Casino Royale has $3 Craps during the day.

Might want to try the Gold Coast during the week in the daytime. I have played $2 crap tables there before.

I think they have $2 BJ at the Westren after 10 pm- Slots O fun has $3 craps as does a few places DT as well ( mostly during the weekdays and at other obvious slow times) Check out the newly remodeled Gold Spike for lower limits on BJ and the Golden Gate for possible $3 craps.

    S;-)

    Thanks to all of you.

Fitzgeralds web site advertises $2 Blackjack %26amp; El Cortez has $3 Blackjack (double deck).

    CBJN turnaround time?

I%26#39;m flying out to LV tonight. I%26#39;m wishing I had already ordered the latest issue of current blackjack news. Today I was looking on their website and it looks as though they only fill the orders on Monday-Friday. Does anyone have any experience with how long it takes to get the PDF of the latest blackjack news issue emailed to you? It would be nice to have it tonight...

    thanks

    CBJN turnaround time?

wahoo, I would be surprised if you get it that fast. Email them with the request. It is a relatively small operation and perhaps they can rush it. Any particular casino? I%26#39;ll tell you what it says for April.

    CBJN turnaround time?

    Underpar,

Maybe you could take a quick look for me and see where the closest $5 tables with decent rules are to the Palazzo for April.

    Thanks a bunch.

Watusi, your only choice at $5 is TI. There is one pit there with good odds for that bet limit. In the AM you may find more choices even at Venetian where $10 games go down. Or just ask if they%26#39;ll open a $10 game for you at $5 if all the tables are slow. Otherwise, Casino Royale, Riviera, Harrah%26#39;s etc. all have $5 games with terrible odds. O%26#39;Sheas is all 6/5. Good luck.

    Thanks!

  • what hotel

    T I or Mirage ?

    what hotel

depends on what your looking for? I%26#39;ve stayed at both...

Mirage has a nice pool, beautiful gardens...etc.

TI has a great room, comfortable beds, good atmosphere...

    what hotel

Mirage is the superior property in just about every category but that%26#39;s not to say that TI should be dismissed. Would need to know what rates you%26#39;re looking at in order to offer advice on which would be the better pick.

A little about who%26#39;s going on the trip and when it will be taking place would be useful too.

Blaggers right, more infor and difference in rates would help.

It might help you to know that both hotels were built by Steve Wynn. Mirage was built as a luxury hotel 20 years ago. A few years after that TI was built as a more economical version for those who didn%26#39;t want to pay the rates at Mirage. And the original name of the hotel was Treasure Island at the Mirage.

Rooms are nice in both, TI wins for better and larger bathroom, Mirage wins for more and better dining options and better pool. It%26#39;s really a toss up, it depends on what is important to you personally in a hotel/casino.

Zumanity - Love it or Hate it?

I was wondering what those of you who have seen Zumanity thought. Do you love it? Do you hate it? Please tell me why.

    Thank you!

Zumanity - Love it or Hate it?

saw it years ago when it first opened....DH and I loved it. Then sent my brother and his wife and they HATED it - yes, an all caps HATE!

It is a very unique kind of show.

Zumanity - Love it or Hate it?

It was just ok. Not the usual cirq show. It was not as risque as they make it out to be in all the ads. If you do decide to go get a drink at the bar there they are great.

We saw it a few years ago. I would say that we liked it a lot. I liked Mystere more than Zumanity and O less.

It could hae been sexier and more risque. I thought overall it was very good but just not as great as it could be.

Thanks for the replies. My husband and I will be in LV in August for the first time and we couldn%26#39;t decide on what show to see. I want to see Zumanity but my sister suggested that I find out what people thought first and she told me to check out this forum.

Loved it! DH and I had seats in one of the couches which are right next to the stage. It was a blast being so close to the action and seeing the performers up close.

last on my list of choices for Cirque shows....if I want bodies, I prefer Jubilee, if I want Cirque, all the other choices are better.

And if you choose to book it, go with an open mind, as it has much in the way of alternative lifestyle overtones.

We saw it a few years ago. I would say that we liked it a lot. I liked Mystere more than Zumanity and O less.

It could hae been sexier and more risque. I thought overall it was very good but just not as great as it could be.

Not often I get to cut and paste a comment because it was my view also!

Hated it. Loved Love, Mystery and O but didn%26#39;t care for Zumanity. Want nudity see Jubilee or go to a strip bar. Cheaper and more fun.

Both my husband and I hated it. We are Cirque fans, having seen all in Vegas and then some traveling shows. Zumanity was the worst, by far.

    Mrs. G

We liked Zumanity, because it was different. When we bought the tickets the guy at the ticket counter said, ';go with an open mind';. WE did and liked it. We have seen Mystre, O, Love and Zumanity. We really liked Mystre, then O, Zumanity might come before Love??? It was a close call for me.

TI or Caesars Palace Last weekend of June 2009??

    Hi

    Thank you.

TI or Caesars Palace Last weekend of June 2009??

what made these your final 2? They are quite different so a little surprising?

What type of room at each - would influence my choice.

What amenties do you desire, what are your top priorities?

C is larger, has more restaurants, some will like its location better, has horrible blackjack rules, a nicer casino area if you are playing something other than blackjack.

    Hi:

We%26#39;ve stayed at Bellagio in the past, it was very nice and very big. We thought TI would be a bit smaller, however looking to be in the middle of the action.

Were a group of 6 and we like to catch shows and maybe rent a car and do some sight seeing.

The difference in price b/w TI and C is about $30.00 cdn per person. (so price is not really an issue)

I%26#39;ve heard that the pool at Caesars Palace is really nice.

Looking to treat my husband as well as its his 40th bday.

    Thanks for any input.

It would depend a lot on which tower you%26#39;re getting at CP. The original towers were built in the mid-60s and are showing their age based on several reviews and trip reports. TI, on the other hand, has just renovated their rooms and is under brand-new ownership, for whatever that may be worth (maybe the staff will be trying harder to please new management, who knows?)

I%26#39;ve always liked TI. More fun. Younger crowd. Ceasars is a classier place, but who cares. Your in Vegas to have fun. Book TI.

If you thought the Bellagio was a big hotel then you will not like CP. It is a huge property. As someone else stated it depends on what tower you get at CP. All the rooms at TI underwent a total reno not to long ago and the rooms are very nice. Food at TI is well - crap, but not much better at CP either. If the difference is only 30. then you are probably in the old towers at CP and they are very much in need of repair and update. TI would seem the better choice in this case. If you get a new tower room at CP then that would be better the TI. Either way ENJOY.

Out of those two I would pick TI. I just hate getting in and out of Caesar%26#39;s.

Was at TI in mid-March - smaller casino - easy to get around in - heavenly beds - good food (Isla is great) - close to everything!

TI before Ceasars. Just like the feel of the place. Stayed at Ceasars once and really didn%26#39;t care for it. A great place with descriptions of the hotels and a map of the strip www.cheapovegas.com

Construction on the pools at CP probably won%26#39;t be complete by the end of June, so if pool time is a priority, you may want to concentrate on properties other than CP. The pool area at CP will be noisy, crowded, and gritty on a windy day.
