Grand Canyon In a Hummer

were in Las Vegas for the first time in May and want to go and see the Grand Canyon. I%26#39;ve hered a few people mention about renting a Hummer and driving yourself to the GC. The only one I%26#39;ve found is saying self drive to the west rim but I beleive its the south rim we really want to see.

Is there anything stopping me renting a vichiel when were there and driving to the south rim (Do we need any passes etc)?

If anyone has done the Hummer trip (selfdrive) could you let me know who you booked with and how much it cost?

Thanks

I%26#39;m not sure why you%26#39;d want a Hummer, it will cost a fortune in gas (petrol) for you to get to and from the Grand Canyon.

Nothing is stopping you from doing this. I%26#39;m not familiar with places renting Hummers, but basically once you rent a car you%26#39;re free to go wherever you want with it as long as it%26#39;s not prohibited by the contract. (Most companies, for example, prohibit their hire cars from going into Mexico, or charge extra insurance to do so).

You will pay an entrance fee for the Grand Canyon National Park, that%26#39;s where the South Rim is.

More info on that would be available on the Arizona forum, the Grand Canyon National Park is located in Arizona, not Nevada.

If you want opinions of the West Rim, (I am not a fan!) just put a search into the box here on TA.

Thanks for the info. How long will it take to drive as we only have one day allocated for this trip and really want to fit it in.

You are absolutely right about going to the South Rim. But you need to understand that there is no place where you will actually drive ';in'; the Grand Canyon. The roads that take you to the GCNP are all highways and even inside the park you will only be driving on paved roads. There is no off roading anywhere in the Grand Canyon. None. Nada.

So rent a sensible vehicle and drive yourself to the GCNP at the South Rim. The experience is way more than you can imagine. And it has nothing to do with driving.

The distance from LV to the GCNP is just over 300 miles and will take about 5 hours in each direction.
