criminal convictions

I have booked up to go to vegas in April.I have just found out that if you have a criminal conviction you might need to apply for a visa to enter the U.S.I got caught drink driving last month and was handed a 12 month disqualification would i still need to apply for a visa.

Please do not think that i am a lout from the uk as i was caught the day after a night out and i thought i was perfectly ok to drive. That is my only ever run in with the law. Please could somebody give some advice.

criminal convictions

Hi, the new regulation is that if you have a criminal conviction gained through a court of law you need a visa. You can look on the US Embassy website for the details - it is causing all sorts of confusion.

criminal convictions

I think that the drunk driving conviction gets you VIP passes to bars in Vegas.

Come on over !

yuo def do need a visa, my b/f had a 4 week ban for a cumulation of points ( speed cameras!!!) and he has an appointment next week at the us embassy in London to get his visa. you should see all the paperwork needed!!!

Regrettably the information you have about needing a visa is definitely correct. I have just had a letter through from my tour operator for a holiday later in the year to Hawaii and LV which contains the following:-

The visa waiver programme is not valid for anyone who has ever been arrested (even if criminal prosecution did not result), has a criminal record.....

I certainly wouldn%26#39;t expect your drink/drive ban to stop you travelling but I wouldn%26#39;t hang about in trying to arrange the visa. The US embassy isn%26#39;t noted for speedy action.

Coxy

dont believe the replies.Ive owned property in florida for 15 years and visit the states at least 4 times a year. Unfortunately i got a conviction for GBH some ten years ago for protecting a group of kids on a football trip from some bouncers. I have never had a problem entering the states even under the new regime introduced in october. People should read the visa waiver programme properly and this will reassure you as to what you legally need to declare to qualify for entry eg, being a drug baron, terrorist etc.

Going to the embassy will be a wasted and time consuming trip.

If i get refused entry in march i will let you know. I even got detained in november at random by customs and did not have a problem.

I have heard many comments like the one from Paulo. Even something to the effect that the US immigration authorities don%26#39;t have access to UK files. Whether that is true or not I don%26#39;t know. I would guess that the likelihood of being caught is probably low, but is it worth the risk. If you do get caught you will in all probability not only get kicked out this time round but be banned from the states in future as well.

Lego - just to be safe, and have the correct information, contact the US Consulate or embassy. You don%26#39;t want to get hear and be sent back or have anything mess your vacation up - No Before you Go!!!

Hey paulo260 how did it go with us customs. My mate has a caution from last year and we havent got enough time to get him a visa. should he just answer no to the question on the waiver form asking if he ever been arrested?

Just a quick question, though it may be stupid! I would imagine this would apply to Canadians as well? I have a 21 year old son who was disqualified for driving while intoxicated two years ago (I think he was switched with my REAL baby at birth:) and though recently got his license back, I would like him to visit Vegas with us sometime in the next year or so. Just wondering!

Wouldn%26#39;t it be null and void as in British law if the conviction was over 10 years old.

  • Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

For anyone who has stayed at either place...

If you%26#39;re doing some shopping at either of the two properties, are there any shops that allow you to charge purchases to your room?

I%26#39;m not counting restaurants, on-site shows or the spa.

I don%26#39;t normally charge to my room but with their Loyalty Points program including Club Grazie points for resort purchases, I%26#39;m definitely going to start.

I know someone will say ';call the hotel and ask';, but I can%26#39;t call out right now until I get home later.

Searching through the forum didn%26#39;t really come up with the answer to my question either.

    Thanks

    Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

I am also going to start earning loyalty points on my next trip to the Palazzo on the 14th...I think charging things to your room and shopping in the stores are 2 separate ways of earning points...There%26#39;s a list of stores on the web site that you get points for and I think you just get loyalty points for the usual things you would charge to your room (room service, food/drinks by the pool, cabana, etc). But I am going to get a definitive answer from the Club Grazie desk when I go. Make sure you tell the Club Grazie desk to link your card with your room.

    Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

There are some stores - like the sundries shops - that I know allow you to charge things to your room, if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re talking about.

I don%26#39;t know, but highly doubt, the Grand Canal Shops allow room charges.

This would be an easy question at Wynn, there the answer is yes.

But LVS does not own the shops or the shopping mall attached to their hotels. It is owned by some mall developer. I forget the name, but they are a big one on the edge of bankrupty. Because of this there are probably a limited number of shops where you are allowed to charge to your room.

    Thanks for the replies.

I forgot that the Canal Shoppes area wasn%26#39;t owned by LVS. I remember the newspaper article about GGP%26#39;s troubles. I think they also own Fashion Show Mall.

What's so bad about the monorail??

I%26#39;ve read many posts on here where people say to stay away from the monorail? What up? It seems like such a convenient way to get around.

What's so bad about the monorail??

Monorail is great... it could be a little pricy if you%26#39;re going in a larger group... taxis may be cheaper in groups of 4 or more... toehrwise, monirail is great... fast, convenient, reliable

What's so bad about the monorail??

It is a convenient (if expensive) way to get around, if two conditions are met:

    (1) You are traveling to/from hotels on the *EAST* side of the Strip; and

    (2) Your origin and destination hotels have a monorail station

So, for example, the monorail is a perfect way to get from the MGM to Flamingo, or Harrah%26#39;s, or (especially) the LV Hilton or Sahara.

It is *not* a particularly good way to get from, let%26#39;s say, Monte Carlo to Treasure Island. You%26#39;d have to cross to the MGM, walk all the way through to the monorail station, ride it to Harrah%26#39;s, then come out and cross the Strip over to TI.

The monorail is good for what it is. I almost always stay on the east side of the Strip, most often at Flamingo. So it works very well for my needs.

    What rawkneee said.

I just used it Saturday to travel from Monte Carlo to Wynn. Of course I walked to MGM, then got off at Harrahs. But still, it saved me a ton of walking!

I am not a fan of the monorail. I took it when it just connected MGM and Bally%26#39;s and it was free. I still thought it was a waste of time. By the time I walked to the station at Bally%26#39;s from the strip and then walked from the MGM station back to the strip I realized I probably could have walked it faster and with nor much more walking involved. So- even though it was in the middle of summer- I just walked back.

Because the stations are set back it sometimes involves a hike just to get to them. To me it only makes sense if you are going from the south strip (MGM, Bally%26#39;s) to the Sahara, convention center or the Hilton. Otherwise- forget about it!

--It%26#39;s expensive if you have a group of 3 or more (compared to a taxi)

--The stations are on the back side of the hotels from the Strip side. Doesn%26#39;t sound too bad, but usually the ';action'; in the hotels is on the strip side, so you end up doing a lot of walking through some less-interesting parts of the hotels.

--With all the walking/waiting you do, it sometimes feels like you%26#39;re wasting too much time. At least when you%26#39;re stuck in traffic on the Deuce, there%26#39;s stuff to look at out the windows.

--There%26#39;s not much to see out the windows while you%26#39;re on the monorail (compared to the Strip views you get from the Deuce or a taxi)

    http://www.lvmonorail.com/ride/route_map/

The previous posters have got it pretty much right. The monorail is kind of a ';love it or hate it'; thing for most people. I tend to agree with PaulStory - it%26#39;s great for some situations, but not for others. Many people who dislike the monorail feel that it should go everywhere and should be free of charge. In fcat, there are plans to extend the monorail route so that it connects directly to the airport, though I%26#39;m guessing those have been put on hold due to the economic situation.

It%26#39;d be the best thing the monorail could do in this economy. I%26#39;d get a monorail ticket from the airport in a heartbeat and I%26#39;m sure everyone else would, too. I%26#39;m also sure that the taxi companies are lobbying against it as hard as they possibly can.

I use the monorail quite a bit while I%26#39;m there, but it%26#39;s definitely out of the way, and you definitely have to think about it before you decide. Some options are just bad. For example, I wanted to get to Excalibur from the Bellagio and didn%26#39;t feel like walking, so I said hey, I%26#39;ve got this monorail pass anyway, why not? It took about fifteen minutes longer than if I%26#39;d just made the walk in the first place, and I wouldn%26#39;t have stopped in the MGM high limit area first, either. ;)

I%26#39;m sure everyone else would, too.

I wouldn%26#39;t. Can you imagine pulling those suitcases all the way from the stations? And what if you are staying on the west side of the strip? You would have to cross the street or use the pedestrain crossovers to get to your hotel. Just not worth it.

I wouldn%26#39;t even consider it from the airport. In Las Vegas you measure value. To save $3-$4 a couple and have to schlep your own bags doesn%26#39;t present any value.

We%26#39;ve used the monorail once, out of I don%26#39;t know how many trips. We were staying at MGM and wanted lunch at Toby Keiths. It worked out OK because Toby%26#39;s is in the back of Harrahs. But if we would have had to walk all the way through MGM and then to the front of Harrahs on the other end, it wouldn%26#39;t have been worth the trouble. The savings over taking a cab was probably only a couple of dollars.

Here%26#39;s the one time I agree with vp on the monorail

If it goes to the airport I might forget it. I don%26#39;t want to fight all those airport people with their luggage! That would be brutal.

    MC Upgrade

I have a deluxe room, how much does it usually cost at check in for an upgrade?

    MC Upgrade

I hoping free when my wife and I check in next Thursday! Five Days left! Woohoo!

    MC Upgrade

Hi we%26#39;ve been MC twice- once in a deluxe room and once in a Monaco Suite when we were upgraded to a Spa Suite. There%26#39;s a big difference between the deluxe rooms and the suites in standard of decor %26amp; size so it%26#39;s definitely worth trying for an upgrade.

I have never paid for an upgrade so can%26#39;t help on that front. I emailed in advance to ask for a suite away from the construction - they couldn%26#39;t do this at check in so gave us a free upgrade! There%26#39;s no harm emailing in advance, particularly if you%26#39;re there for a special occasion. Bellagio kindly upgraded us for our honeymoon. They%26#39;ll make a note of your request and try to help at check in if they can.

Ally or anyone else. Do you have an email address to put in an advanced request for a upgrade or room away from construction?

It%26#39;s my wife%26#39;s birthday and here chance to get out of the house and away from 7 kids (3 bio, 4 foster). As much as I would like to pay and book a suite it is out of my price range. I am hoping that getting there early on a Thursday and staying during the slow Easter weekend will help. I booked thru Aligient Air so the guest services part of the MC website does no good.

  • Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

Can anyone assist with any discount codes or companies where I can get a decent price on a 1 week rental for the end of May / beginning of June. I have rented cars many times in Vegas last year and this and have paid around $100 for a small vehicle. This time however the lowest I can find is over $160. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

www.delta.com Their rates are really good and you don%26#39;t have to be flying Delta to rent a car.

    Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

Thanks...just tried it and it was pretty much the same as every other site that I%26#39;ve checked. I wonder if there is some convention going on when I%26#39;m there. That usually has an effect on hotel %26amp; car rates. I%26#39;ve never seen it so high and you%26#39;d think with the recession that it would be considerably cheaper than normal. Thank you though!

Wow, DELTA.COM is the best for my dates. Weekday rates are higher than weekends. I found Avis at half the price of any I%26#39;ve seen so far. Thanks!! Another tip is to keep checking every day up until you leave because rates can change at anytime. The rates do seem higher this year from last year. Good luck!!

Korbel+coke glad I could help. I found this advice on TA a few months ago and it saved me a bunch to. Who would have thought?!

    Flamingo Parking

I%26#39;m arriving at the Flamingo w/ a car. Where should I park or should I check in first to determine that?

    Flamingo Parking

Do you not want to valet park?

    Flamingo Parking

We always valet it%26#39;s alot easier than driving thru the parking garage then walking to the casino.

Valet is usually free at all the casino%26#39;s on the strip, we always tip $3.oo when we pick up the car.

Enjoy your stay at the Flamingo.

Valet sounds reasonable, does it take long to get your car when you want it? Also, where is the valet located?

Valet is located at the east entrance, go to the Flamingo web site, look under maps and information and there is a property map you can click on to see where everything is.

    Have a good trip.

    Mandalay Tram

Where does it run to? and is it currently operational?

    Mandalay Tram

there are 2 side by side trams - one stops at luxor and continues to the corner of tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd near Excalibur - the second tram is the ';express'; from the corner to Mandy

I am not 100% sure if it is up an running - sorry

    Mandalay Tram

The tram goes between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur and stops at the Luxor too

    It runs fairly often

Someone posted recently that there is one tram running and stopping at all three properties in both directions.

I%26#39;ve seen a lot of recent posts where the tram apparently has not been running at all for weeks at a time.

The most recent time I used it was December and there was just the one tram, making the 3 stops. The lines were pretty long.

Be curious if it%26#39;s running at all these days? And if anyone can recall the last time they%26#39;ve seen both trams running?

just called Luxor as i am staying next week and am curious as well. she said the tram/monorail is up and running for now. the weekday hours are 9am-10:30pm and i couldnt catch the weekend hours, but if you call 702-262-4000 they can give you the updated hours.

We were just there this past week and rode the tram from Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur.

  • Casino Rate or special offer

I had booked my room through a promo code my DH was emailed b/c he sometimes grambles in AC and Vegas. The room was a pretty good deal, 4 nights came to less than $400 at the MGM. The other day I saw a special offer for 2 free cocktails at the pool, $20 slot play, 2 daily buffets, and some other things. The rate came to about $400 a night as well. My question is what is better, to go with a special offer or stay with the casino offer? I did not know what is more likely to get an upgrade and comps. Thanks.

    Casino Rate or special offer

Did you check www.smartervegas.com or www.fatwallet.com?? Paying close to $400 for 4 nights seems high to me, you should be able to do better than that I%26#39;d think. When are you planning on being in Vegas?

    Casino Rate or special offer

We will be there from April 23-27th. I used smartvegas.com to find this rate.

    sorry last post had a typo....used smartervegas.com

    Go with whatever is cheaper.

recently there%26#39;s been plenty of special offers all over the place and most of these are the cheaper, especailly with the added extra%26#39;s, like the MGM%26#39;s offer recently. i booked a night there in june myself, its not that i needed the room just that with the free buffets cocktails and $20 credit the room would be free. the only way you can beat that now is if they pay you to stay...

    Downgraded!

Well, I%26#39;ve been waiting for this moment for a while. I have been downgraded from Diamond to Gold on total rewards. So, I%26#39;m in the market for a new hotel. I%26#39;ve been staying at Caesars for the past three years. Wynn? Bellagio? Palazzo? I%26#39;m also looking for specific room recommendations. Keep in mind that I%26#39;ll have to pay for these rooms now.

    Downgraded!

We are Diamonds, too, but I think we will drop to Platium in March. We have been staying at Venetian and really like it. They offer as many free rooms as the HET properties--at various times. Give them a call.

    Downgraded!

If you have continued to give HET your $$$ then you are probably still on their radar and could still be comped. Check your rewards # on their website and pull up the calendar. I am gold too and get comped so don%26#39;t count yourself out. Good luck.

I was just downgraded as well. They dropped me from diamond to platinum. I thought that that would be the end of the free rooms in vegas,I just checked their website and I am still getting the same offers.

I got better offers when platinum now diamond and still crap except in home casino \\

Doesn%26#39;t seem to matter what your status is at home casino only las vegas casino

We play at HET but not just one so offers stink compared to Wynns Venetian]

I might receive an offer or two. However, I need a change of venue. I%26#39;ve been going to Vegas twice a year for about four years. I started at the Tropicana and gambled my way into Caesars. I am a very low-maintenance guest.

If your a low maintenance guest...your options are almost endless! =) Everyone needs change now and again.

We%26#39;ve been HET players for years (platinum) but have noticed how low the comps are getting lately.

For the last two years we have split our stay between the Venetian/Palazzo and Paris. That way were on both radars and get comped rooms at both.

Remember Who You Are......you are so much more than a colored piece of plastic.

You%26#39;ve been staying at CP on comps for the past 3 years, but what features do you like about a hotel?

There are plenty of promo codes to be found on smartervegas.com and fatwallet.com, but if you want specific room recommendations....we%26#39;ll need clearer specificiations from you.

Can you get Paris comped? That%26#39;s still a nice hotel.

Otherwise Wynn is offering great deals cueerntly if you%26#39;ve dropped a little cash there. Haven%26#39;t tried Palazzo, but loved my stay at the V.

I am only gold but right now, I can get any of the HET properties comped including CP and I%26#39;m a low roller for sure. Have you actually checked online to make sure which hotels you can get comped? I also have comps at most of the MGM/Mirage properties including Bellagio (3 nights) and Mandalay Bay so you might try MGM/Mirage for a change. We have never gotten any of those properties comped before so I%26#39;m sure it has to do with the economy. It%26#39;s too bad I can%26#39;t go right now!!! LOL. I can dream though, right?!!

  • What businesses watch you in Vegas?

    Apparantly ALL of them, lol.

Since coming back from Vegas Monday, all but one business I used has emailed me.

Wynn sent me a thank you, and a number to call for future visits

Monte carlo send me a survey to give them feedback for my stay.

Mirage noticed I gambled there (Just to cash in our points on the cards before they expire) and sent a points email.

Southwest just sent me an email asking...well I forget, cuz my emails down...lol

All but Palazzo, where we both lost about $100, sent me thank you emails.

    Good follow up ';Big Brother';!

What businesses watch you in Vegas?

I got a thank you from Wynn and from Palazzo for getting their players cards. I got a thank you and a survey to fill out from Bellagio and a nice thank you letter from the M.

Low, I was in the Mirage briefly to gamble, got nothing from them!

I also got an email Thursday from Bellagio offering 3 comped nights between now and mid May.....wish they%26#39;d extend the date to June 4th!

What businesses watch you in Vegas?

all businesses where you use a card or some other identifier.

this is quite common in all businesses - including my local supermarkets

many times i do not use my player%26#39;s card if i don%26#39;t want the casino knowing i have been playing

Oh, I thought this had something to do with the mirrored ceiling you had in your suite :)

LOL Warmwinds, that would be Caesar%26#39;s Palace in the good ole days!

Probabaly the FBI CIA INS Secret Service who knows who else

Sometimes it may be in your best interests if they know. For example, if you start running up various charges on your credit card (particularly if it is an overseas account) it may get flagged as possible fraud and your account could be frozen. In this case it%26#39;s worth a phone call to cardholder services to confirm you will be away from home and using your card at restaurants, hotels, stores, car rental, etc. It happened to me once and it was rather embarassing since I knew I was within my spending limits and current on my monthly payments.

But yes, I always seem to get a survey or thank you e-mail from those establishments that have it. Last time I actually gave what I thought was constructive criticism on check-in for the MGM, but I never heard back from them whether they agreed with me or not!

    lol Warmwinds!

    Strip? I did see something from you last time I was there. It was in the round file, Lmao %26lt;ducking%26gt;

not many. I am not in the habit of giving everyone my mailing and email addresses.

Dont do that and you wont get tracked.

To me the free cocktail sometimes isnt worth the hassle.

I dunno Low, do e-surveys really get printed out and then thrown in the trash? So I can add ';the MGM should be more green'; to my next survey? :)

I simply wanted to point out to them that I think having 20 different queues for check-in doesn%26#39;t work well, especially for me, who habitually picks the slowest-moving line at the supermarket, Target, you name it. I think they should go to something more like the taxi line at the airport-one line, and you wait for the next available agent. I also pointed out that the Stardust had self-checkin 6-7 years ago, as does their sister property, the Excalibur. It%26#39;s not new technology. Just my $.02 to help make my favorite hotel even better!

So, the next time you get a survey about a recent hotel stay, treat like it%26#39;s your opportunity to make things better, not just whine and complain that the elevator stopped at every floor, things over which you really have no control.

    Trip Report 3/29 - 4/2

Flew Allegiant out of Peoria, IL. Awesome airport to fly out of. ';You a terrorist?'; ';No sir'; ';Okay go head then.'; Last hour of flight was rough, Nervous flyer but several whiskeys did the trick.

Tried the $20 trick at the Flamingo. Had booked Deluxe room, they were willing to upgrade me to Luv Tub room for addtl $30 per night. Been married 22 years, there will be no luv in the tub. Great move as we only spent an average of 6 hrs in room each day. Stained carpet with cigarette burns but no bed bugs...I checked. Very quiet as there were a lot of fossils staying on our floor.

After check in we went to Ellis Island as I read great reviews. Major let down. Tight VP and $5 single deck BJ table which paid even odds on BJ! Tried to tell me what a great deal it was cuz they would pay me double on a diamond suit BJ. NO thanks, cashed and left. Great hot dog at the next door 7-11. Stopped at Bill%26#39;s on the way home, found a 5 cent VP machine and won $120! Not bad for a nickel.

Next morning got the spouse up at 5:30pm, she was none to happy and said I may have a small gambling problem. Bought 24 hour pass and rode the Deuce to Slots of Fun, played $2 BJ and won $55, Pit Boss said she would rate me if I wanted to play $5 a hand. Too cheap. Who wants to stay at Circus Circus anyway although I love kids...if there cooked right. Anyway, gave most of it back to VP. Little Advice: always watch a few hands prior to sitting down at a table as stupid players can cost you $. From Slots we Deuced Downtown and hit the El Cortez for the first X ever. Forget the great reviews, this place sux. Don%26#39;t mind losing my $ss, but at least provide me with some free beers while I am doing it. Slow and unfriendly service. $3.25 per beer in this dive! Hit all the other DT casinos and had a great X. Much more fun to gamble DT then on the Strip. Exhausted and in bed at 11:30pm

Up at 5:10 the next morn, shoot, shower and a shave and off to Bills where I hit my VP machine. Won enough for breakfast. Service and food were just OK. Hit Flamingo and Ballys with no luck and then Deuced it DT. Note to self: Ditch the Deuce and take the tram when traveling the Strip, definitely worth the extra $2 and a lot less stressful %26amp; time consuming. Ate at Hennesseys (sp?) Tavern (The Pint) which was a total rip off. Order of hot wings $9.95 for 5 wings which were bloody inside. Waitress took them back, took off the tab, but never asked if I wanted more? $5 beers, WTF? Wife did well on Butterfly slots at one of the bead casinos. Great service, strong drinks and people who could be their own father. Good times!

Back on Deuce to Slots O Fun. Played BJ with 6 Canadians and had a beauty of a time, Ay! Those boys can drink some beer. 20 oz Miller Lites for a $1. Lost $50 but Slots is a hoot.

Next day, got up a little later due to the $1 beers at S.O.F. the night before, hit the Flamingo buffet. Pass this below average meal up. Walked thru the garden with the fish and birds. Very cool, must see. Laid out at pool and then Deuced to Sahara. My spousal unit did well on the Wheel of Fortune game. She was due! Worked (walked) our way back to Flamingo hitting every casino on the way. Did OK @ Casino Royal. $1 Michelob and well drinks. Nice. From Flamingo, we monorailed to MGM %26amp; went to Hooters for wings. Very busy but food was good. Lost #ss in VP. Signed up and got the $100 free slot pull. Obviously nobody wins but the coupon book you get is definitely worth it. Great deals on food, lodging, etc. Trammed back to Flamingo and played one last X at Bills winning $31. Hit 4 of a kind 2 out of 3 hands, went to bed at 1:00am.

Up at 4:15am for 7:50 flight. What moron booked this departure time? Slept most of the way home. Have already received free room promo from Harrahs via email. I Love Vegas!

    Trip Report 3/29 - 4/2

Great report Blago. Thanks for the tip on Hooters, will definately check that out for the free slot pull and coupon book.

    ';got the spouse up at 5:30pm, she was none to happy';

LOL. Even though you obviously meant am, the thought of someone being ticked off with a 5:30pm wakeup call is pretty funny.

I know what you mean. It%26#39;s only taken me 7 trips to Vegas to finally book a later flight home.

    Trip Report 3/29 - 4/2

    Nice post Blago,

Chalk one up for us beer guzzling Canadians!!!

I%26#39;m headed down on the 13th, and will hit Hooters and get that coupon book.

    Cheers

I really enjoy a trip report that makes me laugh...good job and sounds like you had fun.

If you buy the ACG there%26#39;s a coupon in the back for when you sign-up at Hooters for $200 free slot play. Worth the price of the book itself. $15 or so I think.

LOL, love this report, made me laugh. Going in 2 more sleeps. If you think Canadian boys can drink, ah, Canadian women drink them under the table :)

    LOL

Thanks for the trip report. Sounds like another fun time in Vegas.

This TR is a ruse!! Blago was in Florida with his family!! j/k Nice TR

    Dee1967 doesn%26#39;t tell a lie,

Canadian girls have put me under the table more that once. And while there doing it look at you innocently, as if immune to any law of physics. Even worse, in the morning you%26#39;ve got a rancid hangover; she says '; Cmon, get up we are going for a hike today';.

I tell you there something encoded on the DNA of Canadian girls!

    Best Vegas Pool with shade

Going in August ,thinking Madnalay Bay or Mirage. Have been to MB , great total pool experience. How is Mirage for shade ? Considering staying somewhere else but really would like some shade. I know Flamingo has large pool area a lot of trees but unsure of the rooms. Suggestions ?

    Best Vegas Pool with shade

Mirage offers a little more shade than MB, mostly around the edges of the pool area. MB used to have more shade but MGM has removed a lot of the foliage to put in cabanas.

Flamingo has even more shady areas than Mirage. But very simply, everything else there is vastly inferior to Mirage.

    Best Vegas Pool with shade

All pools offer shade at some spot throughout the day.

Besides shade what does ';best'; mean to you?

A cabana might work for you - guaranteed shade.

Not a party scene, comfortable lounge, nice pool and surrondings but ability to get out of the 115 degree heat to some shade. Fewer very young kids the better ! A cabana would be nice but pretty expensive would rather gamble the money ! How are the rooms at Mirage vs. Mandalay ?

For a pool with comfortable lounges, shade and less kids head to Wynn - all the others will have kids, especially if on the week-end before school breaks for the summer and all summer no matter the DOW.

    when is your trip?

BF is right, Wynn is the only place you can go to avoid kids and have a quiet environment. There are other adult pools, but they are meant to be more party scenes.

The Mirage rooms were recently renovated, but do not compare with those at MB. They are at least 100 sqft smaller, and the bathrooms are much smaller. And if it matters they don%26#39;t have the floor-to-ceiling windows like MB.

Either going last week in July or first week of August , going to see what%26#39;s going on in LV before i decide.

';...last week in July or first week of August ...'; kids galore - sad to say.

Wynn all the way. With summer pricing rates should be OK. Any other place with a ';good pool'; will be overrun with kids whose parents think LV is a family destination.

Here%26#39;s a quick list of the best Las Vegas hotel pools. I%26#39;m not sure which ones would have the best shade though.

Question regarding Presidential limo pick up time...

Just about to make my reservation on Presidential, and I notice that they suggest you have the car scheduled to pick you up 2.5 hours before your flight time.

Is it really necessary to leave that far in advance of your flight? I%26#39;m staying at the Bellagio, and if I recall, it is not too far from the airport?

    TIA

    Mitzi

Question regarding Presidential limo pick up time...

It depends on when you are leaving. We left Mirage on a Friday early afternoon and had them get us almost 2 hours ahead of time. It took 15 minutes to get there, 15 to check bags and 20 to get through security which was longer than usual. I imagine a Sunday would be a lot worse.

Question regarding Presidential limo pick up time...

Thank you! I will be leaving on Friday morning, and I guess its better to be early than late! lol

We were picked up at The Palazzo 90 minutes before our flight early on a Saturday morning. It took maybe 15 minutes to get to the airport. Conversely, when we arrived in LV, the ride to the P was probably 45 minutes. That was on a Tuesday, about 5 in the afternoon.

I am one of those people who likes to get to the airport early- 1 1/2 hours early. It drives everyone I travel with a little bit nuts( I only have carry on) but I feel better getting there and just relaxing until I board. There is plenty to do at the airport. And I do give the machines one more chance to be my friend before I leave. lol

  • weather in April

What is the weather like in April in Las Vegas?

    weather in April

By the end of April pool weather is virtually guaranteed. First half of the month can be unpredictable and changeable so checking a forecast immediately before your trip is the best advice.

    weather in April

Mostly clear skies but chilly air temps, you might get some rain in there now and again so keep checking the weather reports..

ooh I%26#39;m so excitied! We%26#39;ll be in Vegas 26 - 30 April and I was really hoping for some sun! We are also off to the grand canyon am I right in thinking it will be a lot cooler than Vegas?

South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park (I%26#39;ll take a guess that that%26#39;s where you%26#39;re heading) is at a far greater altitude than Vegas so is always quite a bit cooler. At the beginning of May expect daytime highs in the high 60s or low 70s against the mid 80s that you%26#39;ll probably find in Vegas.

hi we went to the grand canyon around the same time that you are going we stayed over night and found that it was a little cooler from around sun set i would take something light but with sleeves just incase.

We%26#39;ve been in Vegas twice toward the end of the month of April. The first time was gorgeous, sunny, HOT (compared to here) in the 80%26#39;s every day. The second time, I went by that like an idiot, and only brought shorts. I FROZE! It was WINDY and cool, 50%26#39;s every day. Mostly sunny, but fat lotta good that does ya when all you have is shorts and tees!

The temps can be all over the place in April and what it is like one year has nothing to do with what it is like any other year. One person%26#39;s experience is really not much a help to you. I was in Vegas in April for about 8 years. Some years I was able to swim, some years only sunbathe and other years it was so cool/cloudy/windy I could do neither and had to wear a sweater/light jacket during the day.

Average high temp-74(beginning)/82 (end). But the highs can range from the 50s/60s to the 90s. April 22, 2003 the high was 95;April 30th, 1999 the high was -56. Lows-50 to 58 but can range from the 30s to the 70s. You are going to have to check a weather site just before leaving to see what the temps are going to be during your visit.

Always bring some clothes that can be layered (sweater and a light jacket) so you can be prepared for any type of weather. The weather forecast can(and did) change while I was there. And don%26#39;t forget the bathng suit.

I%26#39;m going in April also and was wondering if it%26#39;s hot enough to go to the pool, would the water in the pool be warm enough or will it be icy cold?

Most have heated pools. But-if it is cool/cloudy/windy using the pool could be a challenge. Make sure your clothes are close so you can throw them on quickly if it isn%26#39;t that warm. Even getting out of a Jacuzzi has been challenging at times.

  • Porn Slappers. Leave them alone!!!!

OK I forgot to add this little story to my TR

But first anyone who hasn%26#39;t started reading BRguy%26#39;s TR, it%26#39;s funnier than h3ll!!! and the forth installment talks about the dangers of porn slappers.

We were walking along the Blvd by MC and this one guy was having his hand shook to death by his girlfriend. Porn slapper cards were flying everywhere! Up in the air, out in the street, everywhere!!!

    Seems this guy wanted a small collection for himself, and the girlfriend started at ';non too happy'; to ';Downright pizzed!';

The look on their faces was priceless!!!!

Guys? Leave the porn slappers alone if you%26#39;re with your girl =)

    Porn Slappers. Leave them alone!!!!

I would do more than shake his arm/hand if my guy did that...

If he did it alone and I caught him??Out with the pliers:)

    Porn Slappers. Leave them alone!!!!

I%26#39;d sooner push them all up in a big pile with a road-grader and have a truck come in and haul them off to the dump where they belong.

This comes from not wanting to be annoyed, not because I am some sort of prude. I can%26#39;t stand those guys and my wife just seeths whenever we have to alter our own path just to steer clear of those dudes.

Let%26#39;s the ladies know they can be easily replaced!!! Normally less expensively also! Viva the Porn Slappers!

    Waspkiller,

    Didn%26#39;t you see ';Casino?!'; LOL!

Porn Slappers...hmm, what that must look like listed on a resume!

My hubby collected a huge amount of cards when we were there in Feb. We are in the process of mounting (adhering) them and putting them in 8 x 10 frames for our guest bedroom in preparation for our wayward single male friend who is coming to visit. Ya gotta love the dollar store for allowing us to pull off this joke inexpensively.

Porn Slappers IMO are higher on the food chain than timeshare people. :)

    racinaround . . . that%26#39;s HILARIOUS!!

Hubby brought some home one year for the guys at work. Didn%26#39;t bother me one hoot! He can look . . . just can%26#39;t touch!

On my trip I made friends with them having a right good old laugh! I collected 32 different cards for my ';all things Vegas'; collection!

Instead of thinking the porn slappers are annoying....try a smile and collecting a few cards...heck I collect the room keys, match books, fridge magnets, casino chips and all other sorts of tatt....why not the hooker cards!

    cheers

shirl%26#39;.....live and let live I say!

DW always laughs when I get the cards. I almost always get them when they are being handed out and always say thank you.

BTW, the cards are nice to have when DW goes on an overnight business trip.

Want fun try giving them a card in exchange?

Inexpensive - comparatively speaking, of course!

I posted a little while ago about staying in the Flamingo. I%26#39;m looking to make a list of fun, good, inexpensive places to eat in nearby. For instance, when I stayed at MGM, I really enjoyed going to %26#39;wichcraft. I already know I enjoy Margaritaville. Not looking for places like Denny%26#39;s per se, but coffee shops with good food or deals, and take out places and some sit-down restaurants in the area we will be staying.

    Ideas?

    I like %26#39;wichcraft, too :) AND Margaritaville :)

Try the Victorian Room at Bills, Toby Keith%26#39;s I Love This Bar and Grill at Harrahs, Caribe Cafe at Mirage, sandwiches from the Roasted Bean at the Mirage, Augustus Cafe at Caesars, the food court (Cypress Marketplace) at Caesars.

There%26#39;s an Earl of Sandwich in the Planet Hollywood casino next to Paris.

Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian.

Thanks! Keep them coming. I%26#39;m also looking for ways to save with coupon books if anyone knows.

Maggianos at the fashion mall across from the Wynn hotel. Get half orders of the chopped salad and pasta dish of your choice. This is enough for two people. The waiter will talk you out of full orders if your not locals or have a refrigerator in your room for the left overs. ENJOY!!

Thank you all trip advisor posters!!

    Hi All

Have been %26#39;lurking%26#39; on this site since we booked our first ever trip to Vegas (and America) in July 2008 for our trip in July 2009 for my 50th birthday.

Finally decided on Mirage due to its location, revamped rooms and pool (had money been no object, would have been Bellagio, fountain view or Wynn).

I have booked our tickets earlier this week for tickets for Love, Lion King and the Ultimate Hoover Dam Trip with Viator.

Things we must see and do are - Bellagio Fountains, hopefully whilst Andrea Bochelli Time to Say Goodbye or Viva Las Vegas are playing, Mon Ami Gabi as the chips look divine, Parasol up/down (any time of day/night), afternoon tea at Petrossian Bar, evening cocktails at Fix (or is it Mix) bar at Mandalay Bay and at least one %26#39;nice%26#39; evening meal (probably Wynn) and Casa di Amore.

We will have a daily gambling budget which when it%26#39;s gone it will be gone and will keep any winnings (have to go with a positive attitude).

I would like to thank all posters to this site as I feel I have learnt so much about Vegas from viewing all your posts. I am so, so excited for our first trip to Vegas and have just looked on the countdown clock - we have 115 days until we leave!!!

Thank you all trip advisor posters!!

    Wet Republic at MGM

Since Wet Republic appears to be separate from the regular pools, is there is charge to get in and what%26#39;s the big attraction there?

    Wet Republic at MGM

You can see the big attractions on their web site:

    http://www.wetrepublic.com/

Yes, there%26#39;s a cover. I understand it varies from event to event and maybe from person to person...there is discussion on the forum about it if you search out the threads.

    Wet Republic at MGM

It%26#39;s basically a night club based at a pool. Loud music, snooty bouncers, really hot women with fake boobs. Bunch of zero % body fat riff-raff.

From reading on here, it seems like it is any where from free to $50 to get in. Some people have also said that there is a drink minimum. I guess the attraction is that that they DJs and not everyone can get in(without paying). I will be at the MGM in a few weeks and I will hold off on going unless I get in free, esp. since MGM pools are supposed to be pretty nice.

    Tango,

Go to youtube.com and search ';wet republic';. There are a few home made videos posted. Not sure if they give an accurate description of an average summer day at the pool. but may give you an idea.

Thanks all. Doesn%26#39;t sound like my kind of place. I%26#39;ll stick to the regular pool area.

You can hear the club music from Wet Republic if you hang by the lazy river. I%26#39;ve seen a lot of peeps leave WR and use the MGM pools to cool off. Nothing looks as attractive as a sweaty club patron.......lol.

I wouldn%26#39;t wear it if it was free - serves no good purpose and looks horrible - it%26#39;s not going to influence the casinos that offer this payout.

    Best $3.84 spent

I%26#39;m with bridge it won%26#39;t influence the casino one way or another. However, it might bring awareness to the casual b/j player to comprehend good and bad payouts a bit.

    Rain in Vegas

Hi we are coming to vegas for the first time April 12th. Checked weather forcast and it is showing rain for the 13th. Does it rain for ages or are they quick showers like to Florida? I know its a silly question but dont want to spend our hol dodging rain showers.

    Rain in Vegas

The rain does not last long in Vegas from my experience. Most of the time we smell the rain or see a shower miles across the valley. And the rain never materializes where we are located. You probably won%26#39;t even get wet. Unlike our visit to Oban, Scotland a few weeks ago but we expected that. LOL

    Rain in Vegas

I%26#39;ve been in LV when it rained for hours on end and when it rained for 10 minutes. Fl is not limited to quick showers either.

Weather changes - daily - in LV

No one can tell you what the weather will be like April 12.

If someone said that it would rain for ages would you change your plans?

Check the forcast a few minutes before you pack.

It is waayyy too early to get an accurate forecast. They barely get it right when they predict what the weather will be like 2 days from now! Don%26#39;t worry about it. It is usually a quick shower. It rarely rains all day- although I have been there when it has been cloudy all day. It should not affect your vacation in any way.

Definitely don%26#39;t look at the forcast until a week before your trip.

I too will be in Vegas at the same time, when checking weather.com and Accuweather for my wedding day Apr 10th it%26#39;s changed from Rain to sun to now heavy cloud..... I guess we won%26#39;t know if we should bother with sunscreen till next week. Kidda pant%26#39;s really but I guess better than being here.

Table 10 or other Emeril Restaurant

Can anyone give me any ideas on pricing. We are coming in May and wanted to eat at Bobby Flay%26#39;s place and one of the Emeril restaurants. The disappointment is that while Emeril%26#39;s website posts the menus there are no prices.

Does anyone have any idea of a range. For a salad and entree for 2 with no wine are we looking at a $100 meal or a $300 meal?

Table 10 or other Emeril Restaurant

I have been to Table 10 a couple of times and have really enjoyed it.

    First courses were between $12-20.

Entrees started around $24. Sides were $9-10.

    Food and service were excellent.

Have been to Delmonico a couple of times as well.

Steaks were in the $40-50 range. Sides about $10. First courses $15-20.

Have not been to the Fish house in over 5 years, don%26#39;t remember the prices.

Delmonico was good and I enjoyed it (obviously since I have been there more than once) but I like Table 10 better.

Table 10 or other Emeril Restaurant

Salad and Entree, no alcohol, should be close to 100. At Table Ten, 2 entrees, an appetizer, 2 cocktails, and a dessert cost us about $120. At Emerils 2 entrees and 2 glasses of wine was about $80. I like the atmosphere at Table 10 but preferred the food at Emerls Fishhouse. I%26#39;d return to both.

I meant 2 entrees and 2 salads should be close to $100 at either restaurant.

Thank you both so much! That%26#39;s exactly what I was looking for and is well within range. I just didn%26#39;t want to walk into a place and embarass myself by having to walk out because the meal was going to be $200+.

I plan on trying table 10 for lunch on the next trip. Have eaten at Delmonico a dozen times and love it. Salad, Steak, Dessert and a bottle of Emerils Red Red wine, + tip was about $200 for the two of us last time we were there.

Actually I%26#39;m surprised at how reasonable the prices are at Emerils at MGM. Lower than most restaurants of that standing, including the others at MGM, and I%26#39;m sure less than Table 10.

You can find the prices if you go to Emeril%26#39;s web site, click on restaurants, find the place you are looking for, then click on the dinner menu. It will still come up with no prices, but near the top of the menu click on the PDF file menu--it show all the prices!

    Best Buffet in Reno?

I am thinking of doing a day trip to Reno...read on the way up, gamble a small amount (nickle and penny slots mostly), and have a really good steak or meal at a buffet.

What is your vote for best buffet in Reno?

    Best Buffet in Reno?

gaby: it sounds like you%26#39;re asking about the downtown area? Unless someone is driving you, not sure how you could read on the way up - or maybe taking a bus trip? The bus would almost assuredly mean downtown Reno - my vote goes to the El Dorado buffet. Good variety, good to great quality - anyone would find a number of items they%26#39;d like.

    fredo

    Best Buffet in Reno?

Sorry, I would be coming from the SF Bay Area...so the ride is around 4 hours and I figured I would read or something, then gamble a small bit, have a nice meal, and then come home.

I agree that Eldorado has a great buffet. It is better than Harrah%26#39;s, Fitzgeralds, and Siena Spa and Suites. But that is the extent of my knowledge. When we return to Reno, and we must go to a buffet, it will be at the Eldorado.

Harrah%26#39;s has the best buffet with great choices of good food. Also they have the Range Steakhouse which has steaks that melt in your mouth. When we go there we always eat at the Steakhouse.

the range is in Las Vegas, the Steakhouse in Reno is called the Steakhouse. It wins best steak in the local papers awards every year.

hi! wich is the price of the eldorado Buffet, Hann%26#39;as Buffet, Atlantis buffet and peppermill buffet? (wed night)

Sunday night Seafood buffet at the Nugget in Sparks. $19.95 including drinks. Soft %26amp; coffee.

NOV. 2007.....Buffets may just be a little higher in 2009....Sparks is probably up to date...personally, I couldn%26#39;t eat 19.95 worth of food in one setting...

Gee Jungle. I do not know what prices are in Seattle but last night my wife %26amp; I went out for dinner at a good not fancy Mexican restaurant spending $37 plus tax %26amp; tip. A king crab dinner would run at least $30 each %26amp; a decent steak at least $35 in the bay area.

peddler: just wanted to point out that this is a 2007 post and prices may have changed since...The question was about ';buffets'; in Reno, not mexican food in California!! AND, I eat at the Silver Legacy downtown, the Atlantis and Peppermill, for half the price you pay at the Nugget...but, I know you pump the Nugget, but I would never stay in Sparks...just a personal decision..isolated for me and I like to jump from casino to casino...

  • South Point

    hi guys

i have reservations may 4-8 at Goldcoast

im thinking of switching to South Point

    any thoughts or comments?

    Steve

    South Point

    Btw its a solo trip

    South Point

2 totally different areas. I personally don%26#39;t like the Gold Coast, quite old. I had family stay at the South Point a few weeks ago and it was very nice. Large rooms, clean, lots of dining options. If it was me I would switch.

South Point is a great lil hotel and casino.

Loved staying there! nice large rooms with flatscreens. Sperate sink and toilet areas in the large bathroom. Very long sink.

Casino is fun with lots of games. Buffet inexpensive and breakfast was very good. Cafe is good. Italian place has some of the best service ever and very good food.

    Big clean movie theatre.

The only thing making me lean more towards Goldcoast is the location.

    how far out is southpoint?

About 6 miles south of Mandalay Bay. And check to see if they still have a shuttle to the strip. I remember one person saying they might discontinue this.

no shuttle to the stripbut they do have a free airport shuttle

We considered South Point as well, but heard it was a ';cowboy-type'; of place where you%26#39;ll see lots of cowboy boots/hats %26amp; big shiny, silver belt buckles (since they have the Equestrian Center there).

Don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s true, but it changed my mind. :)

We%26#39;re staying at The M Resort!

You only get the Cowboy Crowd at South Point when they%26#39;re having a horse show in the arena there. We stayed there last year for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. Not a single cowpoke in sight.

We rent a car, so the location doesn%26#39;t make much differene to us. It is easy enough to get to.

eww no cowboys unless they are cute and want to come up to my room

also i love to play bingo i went to a few go;dcoast bingos when i was in towm last month (stayed at mgm)

how do the two bingos compare

is one less crowded than the other

  • Las Vegas Club North apr17-20-- Anyone else?

Got round trip out of Madison WI, for $246 for two and used my travel miles. I get $200 CASH FROM CASINO and free room for three nights. So $46 for round trip 3 nights in Vegas- I smell a good deal.!

Las Vegas Club North apr17-20-- Anyone else?

Oh yeah wife gets cash to!! Now it is only $26!!

    21st birthday

We are taking our daughter to Vegas for her 21st birthday next month, meeting many family members there as well. Need suggestions for a great place for dinner that has good food, is fun, and not horribly expensive...we will be paying for the extended family! Thanks for your ideas!!

    21st birthday

many places in las vegas are expensive to eat. roughly 13-30 dollars a person unless you are getting fast food. There is Tournament of the Kings which is a dinner and a show but is around 62 bucks a person and you eat with your hands. don%26#39;t know what fun you would want to have as many people find things fun that another one would not.

    21st birthday

Tell us in dollars what ';horribly expensive'; means to you.

Also what is fun - to me tournament of kings is anything but, since we all have different ideas of this give us a little more specifics to work with.

Does this need to be on the strip - will you have transportation? What property will you be visiting?

I havent seen tournament of the kings i was just using it as an example. but what bridge said, it would be nice to know those details to better help you. i myself had fun in vegas on my 21st when i went to a drag club but i doubt that would be something you%26#39;d want to take the family to.

Vegas Uncork'd ... Good for foodies.. What about for me ???

Hello I just noticed that Caesars Palace is hosting Uncork%26#39;d a culinary event/convention?? I am staying there on the dates that this is taking place does anyone have any experience with this event? What will it mean for me as a guest at the hotel?? Will getting an upgrade be impossible is it worth going to?? Any input will be helpfull thanks.

Vegas Uncork'd ... Good for foodies.. What about for me ???

I went last year and I am doing it again this year.

You buy tickets through Vegas Uncorked for the many various events- not the casino so I am not sure what you mean by upgrades. You could email your host and see what is possible.

I enjoy it but then I am a foodie and enjoy seeing the chefs show their creations.

THe Friday night event is huge - extremley crowded as you try to get to each of the chefs booths to get a sampling. But there is a very wide assortment of food and wine so I found it fun. A tip though, if you do the Friday night event. Circle the event once and see what looks interesting. There is so much to sample from that if you are not somewhat selective you will be full before you even get started!

This year I am doing the Thursday night Mesa Grill dinner, the Friday night chef samplers and the Sunday luncheon with the Top Chef host Tom Coliccio.

    Have fun!

can someone give me a list of het props and mgm props.Iknow TI was an MGM prop and they are still accepting MGM players cards. but what are the rest?

    ty all

Het property list- MGM property list

go the websites - both of them ahve all the properties in the group available

Het property list- MGM property list

MGM:Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, MGM, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Mirage, Circus Circus, Slots of Fun

HET: Rio, Paris, Ballys, Bills, Caesars Palace, IP Flamingo, Harrahs, Osheas.

    I hope I didn%26#39;t forget anyone.

    ty for your help

Ive read somewhere that Circus Circus has dropped off from the MGM/Mirage players club card so I%26#39;m not sure if the Property itself is still under MGM Props or not I believe slots of Fun as well.

If you go to vegastodayandtomorrow.com there is a color coded map to show you who owns what

Slots-A-Fun and Circus Circus are owned by MGM-Mirage but have their own little player%26#39;s club. I%26#39;ve gambled at both but see no real reason to get the card as I%26#39;m not really interested in comps to, uh, stay at CC!

    utilize the websites

you will see that CC and slots are not part of the MGM paleyers card, as someone has pointed out. why rely on factually incorrect here?

    why? because its fun!!

So.... in regards to the list of Het and Mgm Properties, would one need to sign up for and receive a card from each casino or does one card work for all?

One for all het casinos and one for mgm/mirage props.

  • Day hikes near Reno?

Am looking for suggestions for day hikes out of Reno - do I have to go over to Tahoe or are there nice hikes on the Reno side of the mountains? I%26#39;m looking at no more than 5-6 miles.

    Day hikes near Reno?

Tahoe Rim Trail is one of the nicest areas, you can go for different stretches, http://www.tahoerimtrail.org/. There are others areas as well, a lot of hikers take the Hunter Lake Access roads from the Caughlin Ranch area, just watch out for the toys going the same way. Peavine area is also popular. There is a trail along the Truckee river through town.

    Day hikes near Reno?

    Fred-

Here%26#39;s a great link for you:

    www.newtoreno.com/hiking.htm

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We had scheduled our hiking day for Thursday but it was just way too windy that day to spend much time outdoors. So we did our hiking at Scheel%26#39;s - first time visit and it%26#39;s a mighty impressive place. I can%26#39;t think of a sport that wasn%26#39;t represented in that store!

Cabela%26#39;s is also a good hike around...... Not the same sports represented, but an interesting visit. The wind has been brutal the last few days, my allergies are killing me! Our plants are very confused, do I start spring or do I stay dormant? Cold enough outside that we still have snow from the other night along our back fence where the sun can%26#39;t get to yet, but warm enough for the beagles to take a nap on the grass in the sun. Probably wise to stick to indoor hikes for a day or two more.

Question about LOVE tickets at Box Office

I saw a few posts where people went to the Mirage box office the day of the show and purchased 1/2 price tickets. I know that discounted tickets are not always available. My question is if anyone has tried buying discounted tickets for LOVE at another MGM property box office the same day? We%26#39;ll be at the Bellagio and thought that would be very convenient!

No, the cirque shows usually stay pretty full, so they aren%26#39;t often available day of show unless you are staying on property and a host fixes something out for you.

If you could only pick one show which would you pick??

Donny and Marie is more of a variety show. Penn %26amp; Teller, magic with their special brand of warped humor. Either one is good...but I think I%26#39;d go with D%26amp;M

why dont you get the cheap seats for both shows?

I would pick Bette, Cher, or Vinny Favaruto depending on who was in town.

Of the two you have selected I would pick P%26amp;T. I%26#39;ve seen the show, they are good and I like that type of humor. You couldn%26#39;t drag me to D%26amp;M with promises of the best seat in the house, a free dinner at my favorite restaurant and limo to my hotel. That doesn%26#39;t mean that YOU won%26#39;t like D%26amp; M - they are in YOUR top 2 - so obvioulsy appeal to you. Go, see for yourself. The 2 shows you have selected are quite different - are you aware of that?

Thanks for the advise. I have seen LOVE, Jersey Boys, Cher and Mamma Mia. I would have liked to have seen Bette but she%26#39;s not going to be there we we are. I let my friend pick 2 choices and they were the ones she picked. If I picked both with the cheap seats? Would we be able to see them? Or would we need binoculars?

Our top options were LOVE, Jersey Boys, Mystere, ';O';, and Cher.

Mystere was dark on night we wanted to go.

LOVE was less appealing to my wife.

Cher was playing so we booked.

';O'; was playing so we booked.

Jersey Boys, we may see, time permitting.

I wanted LOVE because I love The Beatles.

She has wanted to see Mystere for a very long time.

We both wanted to see ';O';.

She really wanted to see Cher.

I%26#39;m the one that wants to see the Jersey Boys.

I just got back from Vegas.

Saw Donnie and Marie and it was an excellent show.

Some of the enjoyment is I used to watch the show when I was little - so I remembered a lot of the tunes. But even if you do not remember them they put on a great show - great stage and dancing.

Marie%26#39;s voice has improved with age. BOth are great dances.

My husband told me I would have to tie him to the chair and he would still chew his arm off to get out. He did not go on this trip so I did not have to test this statement out!

I also went to Vinnie Favaruto - hilarious but brutal to the audience. No one is safe - even if you sit in the back!

    Have fun.

Forgot to add - on past visits I have seen ';O';, Love, and Zumanity.

Zumanity is very adult oriented - if this is a friend friend probably not the best. If this is a friend with benefits absolutely.

I loved both ';O'; and Love. I liked Love best but then I am a Beatles fan.

Thanks TIALURA for the discount page. I booked it and yes I got 40% off.. So maybe we can see both now.. Thanks again

Thank you for your post. I plan to be in Vegas next month, and hope to see the Penn %26amp; Teller show.

purely from a value stand point i would choos Penn and Teller

3-day Bus Passes from the Deuce driver.

I thought I had originally read that you can only get the 3-day passes at certain locations. Now, someone mentioned that you can also buy them from the driver. Can anyone verify this?

3-day Bus Passes from the Deuce driver.

Great question since we are interested in this too.

3-day Bus Passes from the Deuce driver.

I just got back on the 1st and you are still only able to buy 24 hour passes from the driver and have to buy the 3 day passes in machines. There is a machine near the bus stop on Fremont and was told there are machines near Venetian and MGM but I did not see those for myself.

The CAT website has the info you need - and if you don%26#39;t see it call CAT.

Believing what ';someone mentioned';, especially if mentioned here on TA, is not a good idea - too much factually incoreect information.

The CAT website lists the locations where you can purchase the pass you desire.

A 3 day pass is also available for 1/2 price ($7.50)for those 62+ years of age.

    rtcsouthernnevada.com/transit/fares_passes.c…

    ';A 3 day pass is also available for 1/2 price ($7.50)for those 62+ years of age';

Yes, it is, the website lists all the fares, this is one of them.

Most visitors don%26#39;t have time to apply, and wait for the reduced fare card to be mailed to them.

For anyone who will use CAT on multiple trips applying one trip when you are in town will work - for anyone wanting to use CAT that trip the reduced fare won%26#39;t work.

In Feb. I purchased a 3 day pass at their web site on a Friday and had the card in my mail box (no additional charge) within 5 working days.

    ';In Feb. I purchased a 3 day pass at their web site on a Friday and had the card in my mail box (no additional charge) within 5 working days.';

Anyone interested in a reduced fare card should call CAT. They say it is incorrect information that you can apply online for this - you must be in person since the card requires your photo.

A good deal if anyone meets the criteris and will be able to use it on subsequent trips. I have friends who have become CAT users - they visit LV on a tight budget and have the sytem to be easy and cheap.

Bridge, I agree, a good deal for sure. The reduced fare card is in fact available on line...within the last 5 mins I purchased another one for my next visit to Las Vegas in May. The caveat is a valid photo id must be available to show to the deuce driver if requested.

I was able to purchase a 24 hour pass from the machines (poster above said it was only available from the driver), and the RTC website also confirms this. See rtcsouthernnevada.com/transit/…tvm

Also, I believe there is a machine outside Paris.

Does it matter how far in advance we order these passes, will they still be good? lets say I order them now (April), can I use them in October?

When you buy through travelzoo, do you print the tickets, or have them at will-call?

Just follow the instructions on the website and you will see the options. You usually get a confirmation number if it says to call and then you pick up at the will call window.

With some shows you print a confirmation and rarely you might print tickets. Travel Zoo doesn%26#39;t really sell the tickets it just has promotions and links you to the source to buy the tickets with their codes. Usually it is the hotel/casino itself you buy from but with a discount code.

    I hope that answers the question in general. I haven%26#39;t purchased any of these since I have Danny Gans booked but it was linked directly to Encore with a discount code. I printed my confirmation and will pick up my tickets an hour before the show. I saved $100 on two tickets. :-%26gt;

Wife wants to get her drink on, any suggestions

I am a lowly beer drinker and wife rarely if ever partakes in a libation. She has informed me that she will be consuming alcohol this trip (20th wedding anniversary) and not sure what to drink. She despises beer, wine, whiskey and is allergic to anything citrus. She asked me, and I of course said beer, (two for me then he he).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Vodka and cranberry! Tastes like Kool-Aid :)

    Oooh, this one%26#39;s fun!

Grey Goose, dirty, on the rocks, extra olives.

Captain Morgan and Diet Coke (or regular).

Pina Colada (pretty sure there%26#39;s no citrus - ??).

and my personal favorite alcoholic drink when I don%26#39;t want to feel like I%26#39;m drinking alcohol.... WHITE RUSSIAN!! Just like The Dude in Big Lebowski....

Cherry Vodka and Sprite sounds yummy

Sorry Low wife has a disdain for Ginger Ale, and from what I read LIIT and GA taste the same LOL

    lol, Veeerrrrryyyy funny!!!

Be careful with the Grey Goose martini...for someone who doesnt drink much, this is a creeper drink that will put you over the edge, limit to one or space them out or have some food in your tummy. Have it extra dirty for sure though!

I drink vodka often so no biggie for me but my husband found out the hard way after a couple of these....was able to con him out of some gamlbing money at that point. he he.

Also stay away from mojito %26amp; margarita if you are allergic to citrus, they both have a lot of lime.

  • Taking your own drinks to the pool

    Hi

I%26#39;m heading to Vegas in May and was wondering if you are allowed to take your own alcoholic drinks to the pool?? and if so, if many people do it.

I%26#39;ll be staying at Mandalay Bay, Excalibur and MGM Grand... are some more liberal than others.

    Thanks for your help

    Mike

Taking your own drinks to the pool

MGM and MB both check bags as you enter the pool area. You%26#39;re unlikely to have success if you attempt to take in booze. At less popular pools you%26#39;d probably be ok provided you were discreet and just took a couple of beers rather than a case!

I%26#39;ve no idea about the specific situation at Excalibur.

Taking your own drinks to the pool

And I forgot to add (though it goes without saying), if you do try to take your own drinks, strictly no glass at any pool.

I can%26#39;t speak for any of the hotels you%26#39;ve listed, but at Bellagio, the Trop and TI, we%26#39;ve always brought in our own drinks. We get a bottle of Capt. and a couple small bottles of coke, put them in an insulated bag with some ice, 2 large plastic cups, and we%26#39;re good to go! Actually, we usually get a drink at the pool first, then use their cup the next day after washing. We never had a problem at those hotels, but again, can%26#39;t speak for the others. Good luck! Have FUN!

so possibly excalibur but not MGM or Mandalay

    Thanks for your help

we did take bottles of water in a small cooler to mgm and mb drinks by the pool are expensive no glass though.

you%26#39;re not allowed to bring alcohol - laws require it to be served by the property

although rare, know ahead of time you could be evicted. happens more at ';pool parties';.

Laws are meant to be broken.....take the booze in.

Sneak it in but use their cup. They don%26#39;t want it to look like a BYOB party.

Last time I went MGM, they served 16 ounce plastic beer bottles. Went to the store and bought the same ones. Went back the next day with 6 beers in the cooler and told them they were left over from yesterday. They left me in. Did this 3 times...I do have an honest face....

    Comped drinks at the bars?

My husband would like to play video poker at the casino bars. Are you offered comped drinks and where are the better, more fun places to play on the strip? We won%26#39;t have a car to go to the local places. Thanks.

    Comped drinks at the bars?

Bill%26#39;s Bar or Partytime Bar at Harrah%26#39;s are alot of fun. The bartenders are the best.

The bars at HArrah, I also have been comped drinks at Mgm bars, MB bars. Harrah%26#39;s had the best blended frozen mudslides and their bartenders are great.

Also I had comped drinks at Gustuv%26#39;s sports bar in Paris- middle of casino floor at Paris- great Cosmo martini%26#39;s.

Sometimes I get free drinks and sometimes they charge. Casino Royale is fun but I didn%26#39;t have any luck there.

    ';Sometimes I get free drinks and sometimes they charge.';

They%26#39;re charging for drinks if you%26#39;re playing? Please tell me where so I can avoid these places.

I%26#39;ve been to a few places where they enforce the ';play max coins'; rule, and I know Wynn isn%26#39;t real liberal with their drink comps, but where else?

Not all bars comp drinks - as has been mentioned wynn does not, it is by no means the only one. The best thing to do is ask when you get to the bar - these days the rules change often - the vartender will be glad to tell you.

know that at most bars the paytables are awful - is the bar location so important to give up the odds?

The Gold Coast used to have .25 JOB FPVP at its bar - and comp drinks. This was last year, so be sure to ask.

Oh oh..I drank at the Wynn and got comped..I assumed it was comped and left a five spot...oops.I guess I paid for the drink and didn%26#39;t tip..Stiff the bartender...not nice.I guess that is what assume does~
