criminal convictions

I have booked up to go to vegas in April.I have just found out that if you have a criminal conviction you might need to apply for a visa to enter the U.S.I got caught drink driving last month and was handed a 12 month disqualification would i still need to apply for a visa.

Please do not think that i am a lout from the uk as i was caught the day after a night out and i thought i was perfectly ok to drive. That is my only ever run in with the law. Please could somebody give some advice.

criminal convictions

Hi, the new regulation is that if you have a criminal conviction gained through a court of law you need a visa. You can look on the US Embassy website for the details - it is causing all sorts of confusion.

criminal convictions

I think that the drunk driving conviction gets you VIP passes to bars in Vegas.

Come on over !

yuo def do need a visa, my b/f had a 4 week ban for a cumulation of points ( speed cameras!!!) and he has an appointment next week at the us embassy in London to get his visa. you should see all the paperwork needed!!!

Regrettably the information you have about needing a visa is definitely correct. I have just had a letter through from my tour operator for a holiday later in the year to Hawaii and LV which contains the following:-

The visa waiver programme is not valid for anyone who has ever been arrested (even if criminal prosecution did not result), has a criminal record.....

I certainly wouldn%26#39;t expect your drink/drive ban to stop you travelling but I wouldn%26#39;t hang about in trying to arrange the visa. The US embassy isn%26#39;t noted for speedy action.

dont believe the replies.Ive owned property in florida for 15 years and visit the states at least 4 times a year. Unfortunately i got a conviction for GBH some ten years ago for protecting a group of kids on a football trip from some bouncers. I have never had a problem entering the states even under the new regime introduced in october. People should read the visa waiver programme properly and this will reassure you as to what you legally need to declare to qualify for entry eg, being a drug baron, terrorist etc.

Going to the embassy will be a wasted and time consuming trip.

If i get refused entry in march i will let you know. I even got detained in november at random by customs and did not have a problem.

I have heard many comments like the one from Paulo. Even something to the effect that the US immigration authorities don%26#39;t have access to UK files. Whether that is true or not I don%26#39;t know. I would guess that the likelihood of being caught is probably low, but is it worth the risk. If you do get caught you will in all probability not only get kicked out this time round but be banned from the states in future as well.

Lego - just to be safe, and have the correct information, contact the US Consulate or embassy. You don%26#39;t want to get hear and be sent back or have anything mess your vacation up - No Before you Go!!!

Hey paulo260 how did it go with us customs. My mate has a caution from last year and we havent got enough time to get him a visa. should he just answer no to the question on the waiver form asking if he ever been arrested?

Just a quick question, though it may be stupid! I would imagine this would apply to Canadians as well? I have a 21 year old son who was disqualified for driving while intoxicated two years ago (I think he was switched with my REAL baby at birth:) and though recently got his license back, I would like him to visit Vegas with us sometime in the next year or so. Just wondering!

Wouldn%26#39;t it be null and void as in British law if the conviction was over 10 years old.

  • Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

For anyone who has stayed at either place...

If you%26#39;re doing some shopping at either of the two properties, are there any shops that allow you to charge purchases to your room?

I%26#39;m not counting restaurants, on-site shows or the spa.

I don%26#39;t normally charge to my room but with their Loyalty Points program including Club Grazie points for resort purchases, I%26#39;m definitely going to start.

I know someone will say ';call the hotel and ask';, but I can%26#39;t call out right now until I get home later.

Searching through the forum didn%26#39;t really come up with the answer to my question either.

    Thanks

    Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

I am also going to start earning loyalty points on my next trip to the Palazzo on the 14th...I think charging things to your room and shopping in the stores are 2 separate ways of earning points...There%26#39;s a list of stores on the web site that you get points for and I think you just get loyalty points for the usual things you would charge to your room (room service, food/drinks by the pool, cabana, etc). But I am going to get a definitive answer from the Club Grazie desk when I go. Make sure you tell the Club Grazie desk to link your card with your room.

    Charging to room at Venetian/Palazzo

There are some stores - like the sundries shops - that I know allow you to charge things to your room, if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re talking about.

I don%26#39;t know, but highly doubt, the Grand Canal Shops allow room charges.

This would be an easy question at Wynn, there the answer is yes.

But LVS does not own the shops or the shopping mall attached to their hotels. It is owned by some mall developer. I forget the name, but they are a big one on the edge of bankrupty. Because of this there are probably a limited number of shops where you are allowed to charge to your room.

    Thanks for the replies.

I forgot that the Canal Shoppes area wasn%26#39;t owned by LVS. I remember the newspaper article about GGP%26#39;s troubles. I think they also own Fashion Show Mall.

What's so bad about the monorail??

I%26#39;ve read many posts on here where people say to stay away from the monorail? What up? It seems like such a convenient way to get around.

What's so bad about the monorail??

Monorail is great... it could be a little pricy if you%26#39;re going in a larger group... taxis may be cheaper in groups of 4 or more... toehrwise, monirail is great... fast, convenient, reliable

What's so bad about the monorail??

It is a convenient (if expensive) way to get around, if two conditions are met:

    (1) You are traveling to/from hotels on the *EAST* side of the Strip; and

    (2) Your origin and destination hotels have a monorail station

So, for example, the monorail is a perfect way to get from the MGM to Flamingo, or Harrah%26#39;s, or (especially) the LV Hilton or Sahara.

It is *not* a particularly good way to get from, let%26#39;s say, Monte Carlo to Treasure Island. You%26#39;d have to cross to the MGM, walk all the way through to the monorail station, ride it to Harrah%26#39;s, then come out and cross the Strip over to TI.

The monorail is good for what it is. I almost always stay on the east side of the Strip, most often at Flamingo. So it works very well for my needs.

    What rawkneee said.

I just used it Saturday to travel from Monte Carlo to Wynn. Of course I walked to MGM, then got off at Harrahs. But still, it saved me a ton of walking!

I am not a fan of the monorail. I took it when it just connected MGM and Bally%26#39;s and it was free. I still thought it was a waste of time. By the time I walked to the station at Bally%26#39;s from the strip and then walked from the MGM station back to the strip I realized I probably could have walked it faster and with nor much more walking involved. So- even though it was in the middle of summer- I just walked back.

Because the stations are set back it sometimes involves a hike just to get to them. To me it only makes sense if you are going from the south strip (MGM, Bally%26#39;s) to the Sahara, convention center or the Hilton. Otherwise- forget about it!

--It%26#39;s expensive if you have a group of 3 or more (compared to a taxi)

--The stations are on the back side of the hotels from the Strip side. Doesn%26#39;t sound too bad, but usually the ';action'; in the hotels is on the strip side, so you end up doing a lot of walking through some less-interesting parts of the hotels.

--With all the walking/waiting you do, it sometimes feels like you%26#39;re wasting too much time. At least when you%26#39;re stuck in traffic on the Deuce, there%26#39;s stuff to look at out the windows.

--There%26#39;s not much to see out the windows while you%26#39;re on the monorail (compared to the Strip views you get from the Deuce or a taxi)

    http://www.lvmonorail.com/ride/route_map/

The previous posters have got it pretty much right. The monorail is kind of a ';love it or hate it'; thing for most people. I tend to agree with PaulStory - it%26#39;s great for some situations, but not for others. Many people who dislike the monorail feel that it should go everywhere and should be free of charge. In fcat, there are plans to extend the monorail route so that it connects directly to the airport, though I%26#39;m guessing those have been put on hold due to the economic situation.

It%26#39;d be the best thing the monorail could do in this economy. I%26#39;d get a monorail ticket from the airport in a heartbeat and I%26#39;m sure everyone else would, too. I%26#39;m also sure that the taxi companies are lobbying against it as hard as they possibly can.

I use the monorail quite a bit while I%26#39;m there, but it%26#39;s definitely out of the way, and you definitely have to think about it before you decide. Some options are just bad. For example, I wanted to get to Excalibur from the Bellagio and didn%26#39;t feel like walking, so I said hey, I%26#39;ve got this monorail pass anyway, why not? It took about fifteen minutes longer than if I%26#39;d just made the walk in the first place, and I wouldn%26#39;t have stopped in the MGM high limit area first, either. ;)

I%26#39;m sure everyone else would, too.

I wouldn%26#39;t. Can you imagine pulling those suitcases all the way from the stations? And what if you are staying on the west side of the strip? You would have to cross the street or use the pedestrain crossovers to get to your hotel. Just not worth it.

I wouldn%26#39;t even consider it from the airport. In Las Vegas you measure value. To save $3-$4 a couple and have to schlep your own bags doesn%26#39;t present any value.

We%26#39;ve used the monorail once, out of I don%26#39;t know how many trips. We were staying at MGM and wanted lunch at Toby Keiths. It worked out OK because Toby%26#39;s is in the back of Harrahs. But if we would have had to walk all the way through MGM and then to the front of Harrahs on the other end, it wouldn%26#39;t have been worth the trouble. The savings over taking a cab was probably only a couple of dollars.

Here%26#39;s the one time I agree with vp on the monorail

If it goes to the airport I might forget it. I don%26#39;t want to fight all those airport people with their luggage! That would be brutal.

    MC Upgrade

I have a deluxe room, how much does it usually cost at check in for an upgrade?

    MC Upgrade

I hoping free when my wife and I check in next Thursday! Five Days left! Woohoo!

    MC Upgrade

Hi we%26#39;ve been MC twice- once in a deluxe room and once in a Monaco Suite when we were upgraded to a Spa Suite. There%26#39;s a big difference between the deluxe rooms and the suites in standard of decor %26amp; size so it%26#39;s definitely worth trying for an upgrade.

I have never paid for an upgrade so can%26#39;t help on that front. I emailed in advance to ask for a suite away from the construction - they couldn%26#39;t do this at check in so gave us a free upgrade! There%26#39;s no harm emailing in advance, particularly if you%26#39;re there for a special occasion. Bellagio kindly upgraded us for our honeymoon. They%26#39;ll make a note of your request and try to help at check in if they can.

Ally or anyone else. Do you have an email address to put in an advanced request for a upgrade or room away from construction?

It%26#39;s my wife%26#39;s birthday and here chance to get out of the house and away from 7 kids (3 bio, 4 foster). As much as I would like to pay and book a suite it is out of my price range. I am hoping that getting there early on a Thursday and staying during the slow Easter weekend will help. I booked thru Aligient Air so the guest services part of the MC website does no good.

  • Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

Can anyone assist with any discount codes or companies where I can get a decent price on a 1 week rental for the end of May / beginning of June. I have rented cars many times in Vegas last year and this and have paid around $100 for a small vehicle. This time however the lowest I can find is over $160. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

www.delta.com Their rates are really good and you don%26#39;t have to be flying Delta to rent a car.

    Rental Car Discounts Anybody?

Thanks...just tried it and it was pretty much the same as every other site that I%26#39;ve checked. I wonder if there is some convention going on when I%26#39;m there. That usually has an effect on hotel %26amp; car rates. I%26#39;ve never seen it so high and you%26#39;d think with the recession that it would be considerably cheaper than normal. Thank you though!

Wow, DELTA.COM is the best for my dates. Weekday rates are higher than weekends. I found Avis at half the price of any I%26#39;ve seen so far. Thanks!! Another tip is to keep checking every day up until you leave because rates can change at anytime. The rates do seem higher this year from last year. Good luck!!

Korbel+coke glad I could help. I found this advice on TA a few months ago and it saved me a bunch to. Who would have thought?!

    Flamingo Parking

I%26#39;m arriving at the Flamingo w/ a car. Where should I park or should I check in first to determine that?

    Flamingo Parking

Do you not want to valet park?

    Flamingo Parking

We always valet it%26#39;s alot easier than driving thru the parking garage then walking to the casino.

Valet is usually free at all the casino%26#39;s on the strip, we always tip $3.oo when we pick up the car.

Enjoy your stay at the Flamingo.

Valet sounds reasonable, does it take long to get your car when you want it? Also, where is the valet located?

Valet is located at the east entrance, go to the Flamingo web site, look under maps and information and there is a property map you can click on to see where everything is.

    Have a good trip.

    Mandalay Tram

Where does it run to? and is it currently operational?

    Mandalay Tram

there are 2 side by side trams - one stops at luxor and continues to the corner of tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd near Excalibur - the second tram is the ';express'; from the corner to Mandy

I am not 100% sure if it is up an running - sorry

    Mandalay Tram

The tram goes between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur and stops at the Luxor too

    It runs fairly often

Someone posted recently that there is one tram running and stopping at all three properties in both directions.

I%26#39;ve seen a lot of recent posts where the tram apparently has not been running at all for weeks at a time.

The most recent time I used it was December and there was just the one tram, making the 3 stops. The lines were pretty long.

Be curious if it%26#39;s running at all these days? And if anyone can recall the last time they%26#39;ve seen both trams running?

just called Luxor as i am staying next week and am curious as well. she said the tram/monorail is up and running for now. the weekday hours are 9am-10:30pm and i couldnt catch the weekend hours, but if you call 702-262-4000 they can give you the updated hours.

We were just there this past week and rode the tram from Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur.
